Modeling of biotic cycle formation in closed ecological systems
Abstract The biotic turnover formation in closed ecological system (CES) is analyzed by means of mathematical and computer modeling. The model CES hierarchical structure formation is ruled by the energy flow through the ecosystem which increases after the introduction of a predator in the steady state of “production - reduction” systems.

Biotic carbon feedbacks in a materially-closed soil-vegetation-atmosphere system [PDF]
The magnitude and direction of the coupled feedbacks between the biotic and abiotic components of the terrestrial carbon cycle is a major source of uncertainty in coupled climate–carbon-cycle models1, 2, 3.

For long-term manned interplanetary missions it is not feasible to carry the necessary oxygen, food, and water to sustain the astronauts. In addition, the CO2 exhaled by the astronauts has to be removed from the cabin air.

Moray eels are more common on coral reefs subject to higher human pressure in the greater Caribbean
Summary: Proximity and size of the nearest market (‘market gravity’) have been shown to have strong negative effects on coral reef fish communities that can be mitigated by the establishment of closed areas.
