This systematic review of 107 studies on the factors behind the elevational range limits of alpine vascular plants shows a persistent emphasis on upper limits and abiotic factors, especially temperature, while work at lower limits is more evenly distributed across water availability, plant–plant interactions, and selection/local adaptation.

The importance of tree allometry for local-scale variation in aboveground biomass [PDF]
Aboveground biomass (AGB) plays a critical role in determining the long-term dynamics of carbon in tropical forests. Consequently, understanding what factors are important in controlling AGB in tropical forests has major implications for projecting the ...

We present the first high‐quality annotated genome of Pinna rudis and an updated genome assembly for Pinna nobilis, two Mediterranean fan mussel species differentially affected by mass mortality events. Comparative genomic analyses of gene sets associated with the “defensome” show that these genes are largely functionally conserved between the two ...

Flight plays a central role in the life histories of birds but is extremely energy demanding. Reproduction is also associated with high energy demands. We might thus expect to see differences in movement behaviour between individuals that breed successfully, those that breed unsuccessfully, and those that do not breed, assuming that individuals adapt ...

Singular measure as principal eigenfunction of some nonlocal operators
In this paper, we are interested in the spectral properties of the generalised principal eigenvalue of some nonlocal operator. That is, we look for the existence of some particular solution $(\lambda,\phi)$ of a nonlocal operator. $$\int_{\O}K(x,y)\phi(y)

Abstract Tropical hydroelectric reservoirs are recognized hotspots for greenhouse gas emissions, yet the role of submerged forests in these emissions remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the contribution of standing dead trees and their associated epixylic biofilms to methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the ...

When honeybees come to town: Critical aspects of urban beekeeping and opportunities for regulation
Abstract Urban areas are increasingly valued for their role in conserving wild pollinators. Honeybees are often regarded as ambassador species for pollinator conservation, and beekeeping is frequently perceived as a pro‐biodiversity activity, which has become highly popular in urban areas.
