Experimental Ecology (Ecological Geobotany) [PDF]
Ecology has traditionally been about plants and animals: microbial ecology has been considered as something best left to microbiologists. At some time in their lives, many “macro-ecologists” may wish to find out about microbial ecology, and the book by LYNCH and POOLE (1979) might well be a good starting point.

There are 2 elements that make ‘‘crowding’’ interesting— mechanism (causality) and manifestation (effect). In our companion paper, Larry Roberts addresses mechanisms. Here, we focus on manifestation. As ecologists, it is difficult to get too excited about Clark Read’s paper on the ‘‘crowding effect’’ in cestodes, at least initially.
