Measuring economic cycles in data
The Journal of Risk Model Validation, 2020To determine if enough data is available for forecasting or stress testing, a better measure of data length is required. The number of months or years of history we collect does not capture the autocorrelation structure of the data, and higher frequency sampling does not increase information content in most cases. Measures such as effective sample size

The income cycles that have been experienced by six OECD countries over the past 24 years are analysed. The amplitude of the cycles relative to the level of aggregate income varies amongst the countries, as does the degree of the damping that a®ects the cycles. The study aims to reveal both of these characteristics.

Presents the empirical data of business cycles and the theories that economists have developed to explain and prevent them, and considers case studies of recessions and depressions in the United States and internationally. Despite more than two centuries of debate, a definitive explanation of the causes of economic cycles still does not exist.

Abstract The U.S. Advanced Liquid Metal Reactor concept, ALMR, is expected to use recycled metal fuel composed of plutonium, uranium and zirconium. Projections of fuel cycle costs for the ALMR indicate that they will be from 5 to 6 mills/kWh (constant 1987 dollars), which is less than or equal to current light water reactor fuel costs. Since the ALMR

Three views compete concerning the behavior of a modern economic system: 1) According to Adam Smith (and the Nobel Laureates, most emphatically Debreu), the market moves to equilibrium. 2) According to Karl Marx (later Kalecki and Goodwin), the movement is cyclic with clearly observed periodicities. 3) Yet mathematicians,
