Regional Economic Conditions and the Variability of Rates of Return in Commercial Banking [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2007
We develop new techniques to assess the relationship between commercial bank performance and the economic conditions in the markets in which they operate. In the analysis, we allow for heterogeneity in the responses of banks to regional economic conditions.

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

Optimizing nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization for enhanced potato yield and profitability in North Gondar, Ethiopia

open access: yesDiscover Agriculture
Potato yields in North Gondar remain below the national average, largely due to inadequate soil nutrient management. A field experiment was conducted at Debark University in the 2024 irrigation season to identify economically optimal rates of nitrogen ...

Do returns to schools go up during transition? The not so contrary case of Vietnam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A key stylized fact about transition economies is that the returns to schooling rise as economic reform progresses. Existing research suggests that Vietnam is an exception to this pattern, with a decrease in males’ return from 1992 to 1998, and little ...

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

METHODS INDICATORS EQUIVALENCE FOR ECONOMIC RESEARCH OF THE LONG-TERM CAPITAL INVESTMENT PROJECT [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Petrosani: Economics, 2013
In economics, projects having an economical life more than a yearlong are considered log term investments. An economic study of these projects cannot skip over the fundamental criteria represented by the economic indicator known as the “invested capital ...

Accounting Rates Of Return As Proxies For The Economic Rate Of Return: An Empirical Investigation

open access: yesJournal of Applied Business Research (JABR), 2011
Accounting rates of return have been criticized by theoretical researchers as biased estimates of the economic rate of return. If true, results of past industrial organization research utilizing accounting measures of profitability are called into question.

Economic analysis of an integrated anthropogenic carbon dioxide network for capture and enhanced oil recovery along the Texas Gulf Coast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper explains the system economics of an example integrated network that uses anthropogenic CO2 from Texas Gulf Coast fossil power plants for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). These CO2 sources and sinks are connected via a pipeline network.
