AFRICA AND THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS: A RISK ASSESSMENT AND ACTION GUIDE [PDF]

open access: yes
It is increasingly apparent that, despite earlier hopes, the global economic crisis will have a significant impact on the economies of Sub-Saharan Africa. In order to co-ordinate and craft the most appropriate responses for African economies to withstand

Rhizodeposition Drives One Third of Belowground Carbon Input in Agroecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study quantifies photosynthesized C allocation in the plant–soil system across six crop types: barley, wheat, maize, rice, legumes and grasses. It reports C partitioning into shoot respiration, shoot‐C, root‐C, net rhizodeposition and root‐derived CO2, providing standardized percentage averages and GPP‐derived absolute values as a robust baseline ...

Safety of Sodium‐Ion Batteries: Evaluation and Perspective from Component Materials to Cells, Modules, and Packs

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review provides a bottom‐up evaluation of sodium‐ion battery safety, linking material degradation mechanisms, cell engineering parameters, and module/pack assembly. It emphasizes that understanding intrinsic material stability and establishing coordinated engineering control across hierarchical levels are vital for preventing degradation coupling ...

Modeling economic resilience

open access: yes

Upscaling Sodium‐Ion Battery Cells: From Aqueous Processing to Performance Assessment of Hard Carbon|Prussian White Pouch Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the feasibility of scaling up Prussian White (PW)‐based cathode manufacturing at a pilot scale. Through careful PW dehydration combined with optimized aqueous processing, we report the stepwise development of industrially relevant 1 Ah pouch cells and evaluate their performance under various conditions.

Emerging Materials and Future Strategies for Solid Oxide Electrochemical Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Solid oxide electrochemical cells operate under strongly coupled electrochemical and thermodynamic conditions, where performance is constrained by interactions among crystal structure, defect chemistry, and interfacial evolution. This review, based on a structure‐defect‐property‐durability framework, reveals the roles of lattice symmetry and defect ...

A Closed‐Loop Direct Recycling Process for Prussian White From Scrap and End‐of‐Life Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A closed‐loop direct recycling route for Prussian White sodium‐ion battery cathodes is demonstrated. Ice‐stripped scrap and end‐of‐life electrodes are regenerated via low‐temperature aqueous resodiation (80°C), restoring sodium content, Fe2+ redox chemistry, and structural integrity.

Sources of Regional Resilience in the Danish ICT Sector [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper the use of the term “resilience” is discussed and a definition for use in quantitative studies of industrial evolution is suggested. Resilience is the ability of an industry in a region to exploit the possibilities arising from external ...
