Economic diversity and the resilience of cities

open access: yesJournal of International Economics
We develop a framework to assess how economic shocks affect local labor markets and worker welfare, with a focus on city-level economic diversity. Using detailed worker flow data across cities, sectors, and occupations, we construct theory-consistent welfare measures. Our approach combines a dynamic discrete choice model with a dual representation that

Rethinking regional economic resilience: Preconditions and processes shaping transformative resilience

open access: yesEuropean Urban and Regional Studies, 2023
The unpredictable impacts of sudden shocks such as the current COVID-19 pandemic or the current energy crisis accelerated by the Russia-Ukraine war have led to a renewed interest in regional economic resilience. Much of the literature focuses attention on how regional economies and industries could bounce back, that is, how they could return to their ...

Transparent Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes with Conductive Oxide Top Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transparent perovskite light‐emitting diodes (TrPeLEDs) enable simultaneous display and transparency, expanding application possibilities. Using a metal oxide buffer layer and pulsed laser deposition, TrPeLEDs with diverse compositions and architectures are demonstrated.

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Power & protein—closing the ‘justice gap’ for food system transformation

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
The protein shift, or transition, entails a reduction in the production and consumption of animal-source foods, and an increase in plant-based foods and alternative proteins, at a global level. The shift is primarily motivated by the need to minimise the

Programmable Carrier‐Free All‐Enzyme Beads for Modular Continuous‐Flow Biocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Genetically encoded enzyme building blocks self‐assemble into monodisperse, carrier‐free protein beads via a droplet‐based formulation strategy. These programmable catalytic particles enable modular continuous‐flow biocatalysis, from single‐enzyme reactions to multi‐enzyme cascades and bead–bead coupled reactor systems.

Reflections on Resilience and Economics

open access: yesAnnals of Social Sciences & Management Studies, 2023
Resilience means different things to planning professionals, shaped by factors as diverse as their disciplinary backgrounds and the cultural and political contexts in which they operate. As the relevance of resilience and resilience planning in all areas of society is growing, it is important to understand some of the associated interpretations ...
