Turning Nd‐Fe‐B Swarf Into High‐Value Bulk Feedstocks via Sustainable Hydrogen Plasma: From Rare‐Earth Oxides to Metals and Hydrides

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidized Nd‐Fe‐B magnet swarf is transformed into valuable bulk feedstock through a single‐step hydrogen plasma process. The reaction converts complex rare‐earth‐containing waste into separated metallic, oxide, and hydride fractions without acid leaching.

Rewiring food systems to enhance human health and biosphere stewardship

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2017
Food lies at the heart of both health and sustainability challenges. We use a social-ecological framework to illustrate how major changes to the volume, nutrition and safety of food systems between 1961 and today impact health and sustainability.

Dual Single Atoms Boosting Photocatalytic Upcycling of Raw Polyvinylidene Fluoride Plastic

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
To resolve the catastrophic disaster of plastic contamination, the Cu‐Fe dual‐single‐atom‐loaded In2P3S9 NSs photocatalyst was prepared for direct conversion of raw polyvinylidene fluoride plastic into valuable chemicals. The dual‐single‐atom catalyst exhibits exceptional performance, with a total acetic/formic acid production of ∼1351.8 µmol g−1 ...

Economics of Track Resilience

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2019
Nowadays, railway infrastructure is a valuable asset throughout the world. Due to the increase in railway traffic, these may lead to the increase in the possibility of railway track deterioration. Thus, the investment in railway infrastructure improvement is growing to prevent disruption, deterioration and reduce maintenance.

Linking Polyelectrolyte Modification and Enzyme‐Catalyzed Phenolic Acid Functionalization of Cellulose Fiber for Functional Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Cellulose fibers functionalized using cationic poly(Dimethyldiallylammonium chloride) (polyDADMAC) and laccase‐mediated ferulic acid system are processed into foams using different surfactants (Anionic, cationic, and non‐ionic). Fiber–surfactant interactions influence foam stabilization and porous structure formation during convective drying, producing

Economic Vulnerability and Resilience: Concepts and Measurements [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, economic vulnerability is defined as the exposure of an economy to exogenous shocks, arising out of economic openness, while economic resilience is defined as the policy-induced ability of an economy to withstand or recover from the ...

Can we be both resilient and well, and what choices do people have? Incorporating agency into the resilience debate from a fisheries perspective. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the midst of a global fisheries crisis, there has been great interest in the fostering of adaptation and resilience in fisheries, as a means to reduce vulnerability and improve the capacity of fishing society to adapt to change.
