Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1987Abstract The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate one way in which an empirically meaningful, formal analytical link between ecosystems and economies might be developed. We broaden traditional approaches to environmental economics by encompassing bioenergetics, but without resorting to energy as the unit of value used by humans.

Research on noise annoyance caused by railroad traffic is relatively underdeveloped. Here, a causal chain model is presented in which railroad traffic density, noise emission, noise immission and noise annoyance are causally related.
