The Empirics of Agglomeration Economies [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2014
We propose an integrated framework to discuss the empirical literature on the local determinants of agglomeration effects. We start by presenting the theoretical mechanisms that ground individual and aggregate empirical specifications. We gradually introduce static effects, dynamic effects, and workers' endogenous location choices.

Microfoundations of Urban Agglomeration Economies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This Paper studies the theoretical micro-foundations of urban agglomeration economies. We distinguish three types of micro-foundations, based on sharing, matching, and learning mechanisms. For each of these three categories, we develop one or more core models in detail and discuss the literature in relation to those models.
