Density (dis)economies in transportation: revisiting the core-periphery model [PDF]

open access: yes
We study how density (dis)economies in interregional transportation influence location patterns in a standard new economic geography model. Density economies may well delay the occurrence of agglomeration when compared to the case without such economies,

Agricultural Diversification at the Margin. Strategies and Determinants in Italian Mountain and Remote Areas

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper explores the convergence in on‐farm diversification strategies of agricultural holdings, between remote areas and more central ones. Using Italian farm‐level data, we explore the determinants of diversification strategies across farms.

The Geography of New Firm Formation: Evidence from Independent Start-ups and New Subsidiaries in the Netherlands [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper investigates to what extent determinants of the rate of independent startups and the rate of new subsidiaries are different. Using a regional data base for the Netherlands over the period 1988-2002, we investigate the impact of two types of ...

The Role of Certifications in Improving Household Food Security Among Peruvian Farmers

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving global food security requires sustainable transformations in agri‐food systems. Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) such as Organic and Fairtrade aim to internalize certain social and environmental costs while promoting more equitable value distribution, improved market access, and sustainable production practices.

How Provincial is your Region? Effects on Labour Productivity and Employment in Europe [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper estimates the determinants of labour productivity and employment in European NUTS2 regions. We focus on technological capabilities (proxied by regional patents), agglomeration economies (employment density), and openness, proxied by the number

A critical review of porous adsorbents for air separation: From fundamental insights to rational adsorbent design

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Air separation via selective adsorption using porous adsorbents offers energy‐efficient alternatives to cryogenic distillation for producing high‐purity O2 and N2. Adsorbent efficacy depends on balancing selectivity, durability, and performance consistency across varying conditions. This comprehensive review critically discusses the design and

Toward Industrial Electrosynthesis of Ethylene: Energy‐Efficient and Stable Acetylene Semi‐Hydrogenation on a Copper Phosphide/MXene Electrocatalyst

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Cu3P nanoparticles anchored on MXene via Ti─O─P bonds exhibit enhanced stability and resist agglomeration during the electrochemical semi‐hydrogenation of C2H2 to C2H4. Ti3C2/Cu3P achieves a record energy efficiency of 23.0% at 0.2 A cm−2 and stable operation in a 4 cm2 MEA for over 100 h at 1.0 A.

On Amenities, Natural Advantage and Agglomeration [PDF]

open access: yes
A prominent feature of economic geography in America is the positive correlation amongst local incomes, housing costs and city population. This paper embeds a “black box” agglomeration economy within a more neoclassical general equilibrium model of local

Decoding Tattoo and Permanent Makeup Pigments: Linking Physicochemical Properties to Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Elimination Profiles Using Quantitative Structure–Activity Relationship (QSAR)‐Based New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This study applies QSAR‐based new approach methodologies to 90 synthetic tattoo and permanent makeup pigments, revealing systemic links between their physicochemical properties and absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination profiles. The correlation‐driven analysis using SwissADME, ChemBCPP, and principal component analysis uncovers insights
