Complex Economic Activities Concentrate in Large Cities [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Why do some economic activities agglomerate more than others? And, why does the agglomeration of some economic activities continue to increase despite recent developments in communication and transportation technologies? In this paper, we present evidence that complex economic activities concentrate more in large cities.

Effects of Ownership on Agglomeration Economies: Evidence from Ukrainian Firm Level Data [PDF]

open access: yes
We use establishment level longitudinal data to estimate agglomeration economies in the Ukraine for machine manufacturing and hi-tech industries. We differentiate state-owned, private-domestic-owned and private-internationally-owned firm types.

Single‐Atom Nano‐Islands: Unlocking New Horizons in Catalytic Activity and Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐atom nano‐islands (SANIs) are innovative confined‐space single‐atom systems composed of single atoms, nano‐islands, and support. Due to their confined space, multiple active sites, interfacial interactions, and tunable coordination structure, SANIs catalysts exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity, stability, and selectivity.

A revisit to agglomerates of early-type Hipparcos stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We study the spatial structure and sub-structure of regions rich in Hipparcos stars with blue B_T-V_T colours. These regions, which comprise large stellar complexes, OB associations, and young open clusters, are tracers of on-going star formation in the Galaxy.

Agglomeration Economies and Linkage Externalities in Urban Manufacturing Industries - A Case of Japanese Cities [PDF]

open access: yes
Agglomeration economies are usually divided into two categories: urbanization economies and localization economies. In 80fs a number of attempts have been devoted to estimate urbanization economies and/or localization economies. After the work by Glaeser

Advanced Electrode Materials for Efficient Hydrogen Production in Protonic Ceramic Electrolysis Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Protonic ceramic electrolysis cells (PCECs) are a promising intermediate‐temperature hydrogen production technology, leveraging high proton conductivity in electrolytes yet constrained by insufficient catalytic activity and interfacial instability in fuel/air electrodes. This review systematically categorizes advanced electrode materials and critically

DETERMINANTS OF FDI LOCATION CHOICE IN CHINA: A CASE OF TAIWANESE FIRMS

open access: yesTạp chí Khoa học Đại học Đà Lạt, 2018
The agglomeration of FDI in some specific locations in the host country, especially in emerging economies, might lead to the huge disparity in economic development between areas.

Agglomeration economies with consistent productivity estimates [PDF]

open access: yesRegional Science and Urban Economics, 2013
Abstract This paper investigates the relative impact of microeconomic agglomeration mechanisms on plant's total factor productivity (TFP) using German establishment and employment-level data. Contrasting different strategies for estimating TFP from plant-level production functions reveals that unobserved output prices bias true productivity and lead ...
