Introduction to Econophysics

1999
This book concerns the use of concepts from statistical physics in the description of financial systems. The authors illustrate the scaling concepts used in probability theory, critical phenomena, and fully developed turbulent fluids. These concepts are then applied to financial time series.

Philosophy of econophysics

2023
As its portmanteau naming implies, econophysics applies the concepts and methods of physics to economic systems. Given that economic phenomena are exhibited as emergent features of highly complex systems (e.g. financial markets), it is most often statistical physics that is employed (especially the theory of cooperative phenomena and of phase ...

Entropy and econophysics

The European Physical Journal Special Topics, 2016
Entropy is a central concept of statistical mechanics, which is the main branch of physics that underlies econophysics, the application of physics concepts to understand economic phenomena. It enters into econophysics both in an ontological way through the Second Law of Thermodynamics as this drives the world economy from its ecological foundations as ...

Economic uncertainty and econophysics

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2009
Abstract The objective of this paper is to provide a methodological link between econophysics and economics. I will study a key notion of both fields: uncertainty and the ways of thinking about it developed by the two disciplines. After having presented the main economic theories of uncertainty (provided by Knight, Keynes and Hayek), I show how this ...
