Comparison of drone and ground surveys for the detection of a rare plant in a fragile ecosystem

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 1, January–March 2026.
We compared the accuracy, time, and financial costs of drone and ground surveys for the detection of wood lilies (Lilium philadelphicum) in an endangered alvar ecosystem. We found that the drone surveys detected 73%–78% of the plants found in the ground surveys, but that this type of survey was more expensive and time consuming than the ground survey ...

Continuous Audio‐Visual Sensor Monitoring Is More Effective Than Human Observers for Detecting Moor Macaques

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Primatology, Volume 88, Issue 1, January 2026.
Camera traps and PAM outperformed human transects in detecting moor macaques: sensors overcame point transect detectability after 2 days survey. Combining both audio‐visual methods achieved highest detectability, supporting audio‐visual sensors as essential tools for primate monitoring in tropical forests. ABSTRACT The number of species threatened with

Our results show that traditional grazing systems can maintain grassland stability without causing degradation, but they can also increase the ecosystem's vulnerability to climate change. We provide clear evidence that GPS‐based livestock monitoring is a powerful and scalable tool for sustainable rangeland management.

Species functional traits affect regional and local dominance across western Amazonian forests

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 1, January 2026.
Dominant tree species in western Amazonian forests show distinct functional trait combinations linked to habitat type: conservative traits in stressful habitats and greater plant size in less stressful environments. Local dominants are defined by resource conservation strategies and widespread dominants are defined by resource acquisition strategies. A
