RESTORATION OF PASTORILE SYSTEMS FOR THE REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GASES IN THE CAUTO RIVER BASIN, CUBA

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems, 2021
Background: Greenhouse gases generated by livestock increasingly affect neighboring ecosystems and climate in general, but proper management of feeding systems based on grasses and forages can contribute to reducing their emission.

Scaling from microsite to landscape to resolve litter decomposition dynamics in globally extensive drylands

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Decomposition is the transformation of dead organic matter into its inorganic constituents. In most biomes, decomposition rates can be accurately predicted with simple mathematical models, but these models have long under‐predicted decomposition in globally extensive ...

Ecosistemas criminales

open access: yesRevista Científica General José María Córdova, 2018
El crimen organizado transnacional es quizás una de las amenazas que más retos genera a la institucionalidad de los gobiernos. Hummingbird interaction niche packing is influenced by species richness and resource availability in the southern tropical Andes

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Niche partitioning is often considered an important mechanism promoting species co‐occurrence in species‐rich communities. As species richness increases, niche partitioning may lead to different niche structures, including increased packing of species niches when the ...

Lichen bleaching as a response to long‐term experimental warming in the High Arctic

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Lichens are an important component of Arctic ecosystems. Studies have indicated a decline in the abundance of Arctic lichens during recent decades, which is often attributed to competitive pressure from vascular plants.

Factors influencing the perception of ecosystem services in Ecuadorian tropical dry forests [Factores que influyen en la percepción de servicios de los ecosistemas de los bosques secos del sur del Ecuador]

open access: yes, 2016
La importancia que brindan los servicios de los ecosistemas de los bosques secos tropicales se comprende mejor si se analizan las percepciones de los pobladores que se benefician de dichos servicios.

The coastal ecosystems of the south-east of Cuba and their resilience after a fire

open access: yesRevista Cubana de Ciencias Forestales, 2017
The fire represents one of the most severe disturbance agents altering the communities’ characteristics. The objectives of the research are to determine the magnitude of the change of plants species diversity generated by a fire at the microphyll ...

From steps to home ranges: How habitat disturbance influences the movement drivers of an arboreal primate

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Challenging the narrative about howler monkeys' high resilience to anthropogenic changes, our multiscale analysis reveals the costs of habitat disturbance to their movement ecology. We identify thermal limitations, reduced travel efficiency, and significant spatial saturation.
