Natural capital accounting perspectives: a pragmatic way forward

open access: yesEcosystem Health and Sustainability, 2019
Introduction: Recent debates surrounding the application of natural capital accounting (NCA) have produced several approaches to further develop this system, as well as highlighted a number of conceptual and methodological issues that need to be resolved

Accounting and Valuation Component of Implementing Nature-Based Solutions [PDF]

open access: yesОблік і фінанси
Nature offers solutions to many economic and social problems that increase natural capital and contribute to biodiversity. Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) are individual complex projects, and the costs and results of their implementation are essential ...

Magnetic‐Field Control of Surface States in CoFe2O4 Thin Films for Nitrate Electroreduction to Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic‐field‐assisted CVD of heterometallic single‐source precursors modulates thin‐film surface electronic structure and interfacial charge transfer. Field‐grown (Cobalt ferrite‐1T)CF‐1T films exhibit stabilized electronic states, lower kinetic barriers, and markedly enhanced nitrate‐to‐ammonia electrocatalysis versus (Cobalt ferrite‐0T) CF‐0T ...

Ecosystem accounting for biodiversity surrounding windfarms

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Management
To ensure that climate action and biodiversity obligations are met, the rapid growth of the renewable energy industry must be accompanied by tools to monitor, protect and enhance the biodiversity surrounding renewable energy infrastructures. The United Nations System of Environmental Economic Accounting-Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA-EA) provides a ...

Controlled Engineering of 2D Alkali‐Iron‐Chloride Compounds and Lateral Quantum Heterostructures Within Confined Graphene Nanoreactors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a programmable atomic engineering strategy for 2D materials using Å‐scale nanoreactors formed by bilayer graphene (BLG) intercalation. A new class of alkali‐iron‐chloride compounds, along with lateral heterostructures composed of monolayer alkali halides and iron chlorides, is revealed.

No net loss accounting: Aligning biodiversity offsets with ecosystem accounts

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence
Biodiversity offsetting and ecosystem accounting are two rapidly developing fields that share a common goal: quantifying changes in ecosystems. Nevertheless, the intersection of these fields is often overlooked, despite the significant synergies they ...

Portable Breathing Monitoring With Phase‐Resolved Airflow Dynamics Enabled by a Dual‐Response Flexible PZT Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A portable respiratory monitoring device based on a flexible PZT sensor captures pressure‐ and temperature‐related airflow responses in a single waveform. Polarity‐opposed piezoelectric and pyroelectric components generate a narrow transient spike and a broad quasi‐steady peak during both inhalation and exhalation. This dual‐component structure enables

n‐Type Polymer Radio Frequency Rectifiers Operating at 18.5 GHz

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining an n‐doped polymer semiconductor with wafer‐scale asymmetric planar electrodes featuring work function‐engineered contacts yields radio‐frequency diodes and rectifying circuits operating at up to 18.5 GHz. The devices combine scalable manufacturing with an operating frequency previously unattainable by large‐area organic electronics ...
