A sulfated polysaccharide (SCP) from Cyclocarya paliurus alleviates ulcerative colitis by reshaping the gut microbiome. This remodeled microbiota orchestrates the upregulation of the host‐derived lipid 12‐HEPE, which directly inhibits the TLR4/NF‐κB pathway to suppress inflammation.

Early detection of ecosystem regime shifts: A multiple method evaluation for management application [PDF]
Critical transitions between alternative stable states have been shown to occur across an array of complex systems. While our ability to identify abrupt regime shifts in natural ecosystems has improved, detection of potential early-warning signals ...

Extra Climate Benefits From Afforestation Due to Reduced Forest Fragmentation in China
Afforestation in China reduced forest fragmentation in 2015, transforming 51.8 M ha of edge forests into interior forests. This enhanced carbon sequestration (1.4±0.2 Pg CO2e, a cooling biogeochemical effect), while reduced albedo (−0.9 Pg CO2e, a warming biophysical effect) partially offset the gain, yielding a net extra climate benefit of ...

On the community and ecosystem level consequences of warming
PhDThe carbon cycle modulates climate change, via the regulation of atmospheric CO2, and it represents one of the most important ecosystem services of value to humans.

The persistence of plant populations depends crucially on successful regeneration. Yet, little is known about the effects of consecutive winter and spring frost events on the regeneration stage of trees from different seed sources, although this will ...

Mutual Facilitation Among Invading Nuttall’s Waterweed and Quagga Mussels
Nuttall’s waterweed (Elodea nuttallii) is the most abundant invasive aquatic plant species in several European countries. Elodea populations often follow a boom-bust cycle, but the causes and consequences of this dynamics are yet unknown.

This perspective proposes a cohesive machine learning strategy to decode microplastic aging. It advocates for Federated Learning to dismantle global data silos and introduces the TRACE framework (TRansport, Aging, Corona, Ecotoxicity). By integrating physics‐informed modeling with causal discovery, this approach bridges the laboratory‐field gap to ...

Coral reef ecosystem services in the Anthropocene
Coral reefs underpin a range of ecosystem goods and services that contribute to the well-being of millions of people. However, tropical coral reefs in the Anthropocene are likely to be functionally different from reefs in the past.
