Understanding and predicting rates of ecosystem processes (e.g., soil erosion, nutrient flux) across large heterogeneous landscapes is an emerging challenge in ecosystem and landscape ecology. Also, many current problems in ecosystem management (e.g., maintenance of water quality and reduction of soil erosion) occur over broad spatial scales and across

Ecosystems modelling methodologies
ACM SIGSIM Simulation Digest, 1977The construction of a simulation model proceeds from a statement of objectives, through hypothesis choice and formulation, to computer implementation and model experiments. Even the best of the modern simulation languages provide good support for only a portion of these activities.

Research Challenges in Modelling Ecosystems
2015Ecosystems and their biodiversity have to be protected and preserved as sources of services and goods. The human population controls and modifies ecosystems to improve its health conditions and welfare. The consequences of human activities should be carefully monitored and ecosystems should be managed to protect all of the species and preserve their ...

Ecosystem Management requires models that can link the ecosystem level to the operation level. This link can be created by an ecosystem production model. Because the function of the individual fish in the marine ecosystem, seen in trophic context, is closely related to its size, the model groups fish according to size.

Platforms facilitate the creation of complementary modulesby third parties and act as intermediaries between different groups of ac-tors. Due to the high degree of collaboration between actors, ecosystemsevolve around such platforms. As a result of digitalization, platform busi-ness models are becoming viable in more and more domains.
