High concentrations of polyethylene microplastics restrain the growth of Cinnamomum camphora seedling by reducing soil water holding capacity

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
The accumulation of microplastics (MPs) in soils due to anthropogenic activities affects the growth and development of plants and thereby endangering the diversity and function of ecosystems.

Joint analysis of stressors and ecosystem services to enhance restoration effectiveness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
With increasing pressure placed on natural systems by growing human populations, both scientists and resource managers need a better understanding of the relationships between cumulative stress from human activities and valued ecosystem services ...

Restoration enhances wetland biodiversity and ecosystem service supply, but results are context-dependent: a meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Wetlands are valuable ecosystems because they harbor a huge biodiversity and provide key services to societies. When natural or human factors degrade wetlands, ecological restoration is often carried out to recover biodiversity and ecosystem services (ES)

Targeting Lactate and Lactylation in Cancer Metabolism and Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lactate, once deemed a metabolic waste, emerges as a central regulator of cancer progression. This review elucidates how lactate and its epigenetic derivative, protein lactylation, orchestrate tumor metabolism, immune suppression, and therapeutic resistance.

Application of jasmonic acid boosts accelerative effects of silicon addition on rice defense against invasion of apple snails (Ampullariidae)

open access: yesEcological Processes
Background The invasion of apple snails (Pomacea spp.) has a serious negative impact on the yield of aquatic crops, including rice, which is a vital food source for more than half of the global population and irreplaceable in maintaining the global food ...

Understanding and Overcoming Antibody‐Drug Conjugate Resistance: Biological Mechanisms and Emerging Analytical Frameworks in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs) transform breast cancer therapy, yet resistance limits their durability. Emerging evidence reveals that ADC failure is not solely tumor‐intrinsic but shaped by dynamic tumor–microenvironment interactions that alter drug delivery, processing, and response.

Plant Taxonomic Diversity Better Explains Soil Fungal and Bacterial Diversity than Functional Diversity in Restored Forest Ecosystems

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Plant attributes have direct and indirect effects on soil microbes via plant inputs and plant-mediated soil changes. However, whether plant taxonomic and functional diversities can explain the soil microbial diversity of restored forest ecosystems ...

Prognosis for Ecosystem Recovery Following Rodent Eradication and Seabird Restoration in an Island Archipelago [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Invasive species are widespread and can have devastating effects on biota, especially insular biota. Invasive species eradications are increasingly employed to promote island recovery to preinvasion states.

Time‐Controlled Refrigerated Stem Cell Therapy Mitigates Scleroderma Fibrosis via Modulation of Mitochondrial Autophagy and Gut Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study established an RT‐MSCs‐based therapeutic approach for scleroderma in mice. RT‐MSCs attenuated fibrosis by regulating mitochondrial autophagy and restored gut microbiota homeostasis. Metabolomic analyses confirmed recovery of key metabolites, and RT‐MSCs demonstrated favorable lesion targeting and safety profiles.
