AI And the Editors' Ghost: Who Is the Writer Now?

open access: yesLearned Publishing, Volume 39, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This an exploration of the use of AI in research and writing. It builds upon the ‘Harbingers’ project, an international and longitudinal study of early career researchers (ECRs) and scholarly communication. In the fourth phase of the project, we returned to the theme of AI, in particular AI as ‘ghostwriter’.

Glutathione Impacts Both Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis Virulence and Amphibian Cellular Defense in a Chytridiomycosis Model

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
Glutathione shapes interactions between Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) and amphibian hosts. In Bd, glutathione reductase is essential for survival, and exogenous glutathione enhances zoospore release. In host cells, Bd infection depletes glutathione and increases oxidative stress.

The Effect of Air Purification on the Indoor Air Quality in Habitable New Zealand Buildings

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Volume 56, Issue 2, April 2026.
Particulate matter (PM) in indoor air, including fungal spores and bacteria, poses significant health risks, especially in poorly constructed and inadequately ventilated buildings that are prevalent in New Zealand. To maintain acceptable living conditions, there is a need to explore ways in which fungal and bacterial populations in habitable buildings ...

Stress distribution in endodontically treated external cervical resorption lesions restored with MTA and biodentine – A finite element analysis

open access: yesJournal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research
Introduction: Root resorption poses a significant challenge in dental practice, with external cervical resorption (ECR) being a common manifestation. ECR is often asymptomatic until advanced stages, complicating its diagnosis and management.

Rethinking Collinearity in Self‐Organizing Maps: Evidence From Geophysical Data Classification

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract This study examines the impact of collinearity on unsupervised machine learning algorithms (UMLAs), specifically Self‐Organizing Maps (SOMs), for detecting lithological boundaries in geophysical data. Using a multi‐scale experimental framework that includes bivariate isotropic clusters, geologically complex Noddy simulations, and real‐world ...

Prioritising research on endocrine disruption in the marine environment: a global perspective

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 2, Page 848-868, April 2026.
ABSTRACT A healthy ocean is a crucial life support system that regulates the global climate, is a source of oxygen and supports major economic activities. A vast and understudied biodiversity from micro‐ to macro‐organisms is integral to ocean health.
