First occurrence of Blattodea and their association with ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in abandoned social wasp nests (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Polistinae)

open access: yesEntomoBrasilis
Abandoned nests of social wasps are used by various arthropods, however, there are no records of cockroaches. Therefore, the objective of this study is to report the occurrence of cockroaches in abandoned social wasp nests.

Population Structure of German Cockroaches (Blattodea: Ectobiidae) in an Urban Environment Based on Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms

open access: yesJournal of Medical Entomology, 2022
Abstract German cockroaches (Blattella germanica L.) harbor and disperse medically important pathogens and are a source of allergens that impact human health and wellbeing. Management of this pest requires an understanding of their distribution and dispersal.

Behavioral and Morphological Studies of the Membranous Tergal Structure of Male Blattella germanica (Blattodea: Ectobiidae) During Courtship. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Insect Sci, 2019
Abstract The male German cockroach Blattella germanica (L.) exhibits a characteristic courtship display by raising its wings, turning around, and exposing its tergal glands on the seventh and eighth tergites to the female. The male secretes a courtship pheromone from the tergal glands which induces a strong feeding response in the female,

A survey of generic names in Rubiaceae (Gentianales) with notes on context and patterns in naming

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 74, Issue 5, Page 1153-1171, October 2025.
Abstract Rubiaceae is one of the most diverse angiosperm families and consequently is the topic of much systematic research. Plenty of literature exists on the familial, tribal, and species level; however, a comprehensive overview of the names at the generic level is lacking. The aim of this study is to present a survey of all names and designations at

No guts, no glory: Gut content metabarcoding unveils the diet of a flower‐associated coastal sage scrub predator

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 10, Issue 5, May 2019., 2019
Abstract Invertebrate generalist predators are ubiquitous and play a major role in food‐web dynamics. Molecular gut content analysis (MGCA) has become a popular means to assess prey ranges and specificity of cryptic arthropods in the absence of direct observation.

Discovery of cockroach specimens of the genus Squamoptera (Ectobiidae: Pseudophyllodromiinae) from Okinawa, Japan, showing wing polymorphism

open access: yesTropical Biomedicine, 2021
Cockroach specimens of the genus, Squamoptera were collected from the Iriomote island of Okinawa prefecture, Japan. The morphological features of the specimens were characterized as having a white band on the dorsal surface of its thorax, its tegmen reduced into a tiny scale-like structure and the hindwing was absent.

Using fecal DNA metabarcoding to investigate the animal diet of black rails, yellow rails, and soras

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, Volume 49, Issue 3, September 2025.
We used fecal DNA metabarcoding to investigate the diet of yellow rails, Eastern black rails, and sora during the non‐breeding season. Arthropods, particularly ants, were prevalent in their diets, suggesting possible interactions with invasive red imported fire ants.

Cockroach Infestation and Factors Affecting the Estimation of Cockroach Population in Urban Communities

open access: yesInternational Journal of Zoology, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Cockroach is one of the most important pests in urban communities. This study was conducted to determine the situation of cockroach infestation and effective factors on cockroach trap count in urban communities of Yasuj City in southwestern Iran. In this study cockroach population in 573 sampling units (residential units, official places, and hospitals)

Biological Flora of Britain and Ireland: Cytisus scoparius*

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 7, Page 1877-1933, July 2025.
Broom is an attractive and common native plant across Britain, Ireland and most of Europe, and yet it is considered a harmful and invasive weed around the rest of the world. This is aided by broom thriving on poor dry soils, helped by using green stems for photosynthesis and having root nodules to fix nitrogen.
