Indomethacin for prevention of ectopic ossification after hip arthroplasty

Acta Orthopaedica Scandinavica, 1986
Twelve patients at risk of developing postoperative para-articular ossifications were treated with indomethacin. Ossification after previous total hip arthroplasty was excised in eight patients. Four patients had ossification in the opposite hip after previous arthroplasty. Five patients in whom ectopic ossification was excised developed recurrences of

Ectopic Ossification Associated With Osteoid Osteoma in the Acetabulum A Case Report

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1994
Ectopic bone formation was associated with osteoid osteoma in the anterior rim of the acetabulum. A factor, which has been speculated to be secreted from the nidus and is responsible for increased osteoblastic activity, also seemed to have the capacity to stimulate young mesenchymal cells to differentiate into an osteogenic pathway. A case of a 35-year-

The incidence of radiographically visible ectopic ossification around the hip joint was redorded in 145 hip joints of 132 patients treated by endoprosthetic replacement. There were 56 total hip replacements with a McKee-Farrar and 39 with a Brunswik type of endoprosthesis; in a further 50 hips the femoral head was replaced with a Moore or Thompson ...
