Ectopic Intrapulmonary Thyroid

Chest, 1993
An 83-year-old woman underwent resection of a pulmonary tumor. Histologic examination of the tumor demonstrated thyroid follicles without evidence of malignancy or teratomatous elements. Developmental anomaly may account for the ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid, which, to our knowledge, has not been reported in the literature.

Intracardiac ectopic thyroid

Human Pathology, 1986
The case of a patient with an intracardiac ectopic thyroid is reported. A lesion was found in a 25-year-old man and was diagnosed by two-dimensional echocardiography as a right intraventricular tumor. An operation was performed. Histologic and ultrastructural studies showed that the tumor was a thyroid mass.

Lateral pediatric ectopic thyroid

The Laryngoscope, 2012
AbstractWe present a case of a left‐sided neck mass in an 8‐year‐old female that proved to be ectopic thyroid tissue. After excision, this patient continues to do well and is euthyroid without recurrence after 8‐year follow‐up. This is a very rare anomaly in a child, especially in conjunction with a normally located thyroid that is functional.

Ectopic Thyroid Nodule in the Esophagus

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1975
Abstract An incidental finding in a 51-year-old man was a small nodule in the cervical portion of the esophagus. The bluish appearance on endoscopy suggested a hemangioma, but subsequent excision showed the submucosal nodule to be thyroid tissue. Two patients with this lesion have been reported previously.

Suprahyoid Median Ectopic Thyroid

Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, 1977
Isolated midline ectopic thyroid tissue may simulate a thyroglossal cyst. The following case report is an example of this relatively rare condition and indicates the problems involved in preoperative diagnosis and later management.

Intratracheal Ectopic Thyroid Tissue

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2013
Intratracheal ectopic thyroid tissue is a rare finding that can cause airway obstruction. The symptoms can easily be confused with those of bronchial asthma. We describe the case of a 30-year-old woman with subglottic thyroid tissue who had been misdiagnosed earlier with bronchial asthma.

Ectopic thyroid in the adrenal gland

Human Pathology, 1999
We report two cases of intraadrenal thyroid gland tissue, both found by abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan and ultrasound echography. Histologically, the lesions were composed of mature thyroid follicles, varying in size, and some with cystic dilatation. Immunohistochemical staining for thyroglobulin confirmed their thyroid follicular nature.

Submandibular Ectopic Thyroid Gland

Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2006
Ectopic thyroid glands are generally a rare entity appearing mostly in the cervical midline (90% of the cases) and even more rarely in other anatomical sites (10%). We present the case of an ectopic submandibular thyroid gland. An 81-year-old woman was referred to our department with a history of right-sided submandibular swelling.

[Ectopic thyroid].

Annales d'oto-laryngologie et de chirurgie cervico faciale : bulletin de la Societe d'oto-laryngologie des hopitaux de Paris, 2006
Ectopic thyroid is defined as thyroid tissue not located anterolaterally between the second and the fourth tracheal cartilage. This anomalous localization results from abnormal embryologic development and/or migration of the gland. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the role of imaging in the preoperative evaluation of ectopic thyroid.A 13 ...

Papillary Carcinoma in an Ectopic Thyroid

Hormone Research, 2008
Ectopic thyroid tissue can be seen anywhere from the foramen caecum to the lower neck. Most frequently it presents as a thyroglossal duct cyst associated with a normal thyroid gland. Less common is total ectopia, which can occur as a lingual thyroid or occasionally in non-lingual locations.
