Ectopic thymic tissue in the thyroid gland

Endocrine Pathology, 1993
A case of ectopic thymic tissue of the thyroid in a 30-year-old woman with Graves' disease is reported. The thyroidectomy specimen, removed because of failure of medical therapy, showed a continuous track of thymic tissue extending from the center of the gland to the capsule along an interiobular septum.

Ectopic pituitary fossa thyroid tissue

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 1997
Developmental anomalies of the thyroid gland may result in ectopic glandular tissue. We report a unique case of ectopic thyroid tissue within the pituitary fossa and sphenoid sinus, associated with a lingual thyroid gland. The aetiology of this ectopic tissue is postulated to be ascent of primitive thyroid endoderm at the time of formation of Rathke's ...

Intratracheal Ectopic Thyroid Tissue Mass

Chest, 1997
A diagnosis of severe stridor due to a subglottic tracheal mass was made in a 62-year-old woman. The tumor was removed by external transtracheal surgery, and the pathologic study disclosed that it was intratracheal ectopic thyroid tissue. In this particular case, 10 years prior to the onset of the stridor, normal thyroid tissue was seen in biopsy ...

Ectopic thyroid tissue in the submandibular region

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1991
This report describes an unusual location of ectopic thyroid gland tissue. A growth in the left submandibular area was surgically excised, and the microscopic examination of the specimen revealed thyroid tissue with colloid goiter. Because this entity cannot be clinically distinguished from a salivary gland tumor, ectopic thyroid tissue should be ...

Ectopic Intrapulmonary Thyroid Tissue Mimicking Metastatic Tissue

Thyroid, 2012
Background: Ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid is extremely rare, with only about two cases reported in the literature. These cases were found either during the work-up of a solitary pulmonary nodule or at autopsy. Here, we report a case of ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid mimicking multiple pulmonary metastases from ...

Ectopic Thyroid Tissue in the Adrenal Gland

International Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2014
Foci of ectopic thyroid tissue are uncommon. Most sites of thyroid ectopia are confined to the neck region. The presence of ectopic thyroid tissue outside the migration pathway of the primitive thyroid in other locations is exceptional. Given that any disease of the thyroid gland may also affect ectopic thyroid tissue, pathologists has to recognize ...

Laparoscopic resection of retroperitoneal ectopic thyroid tissue

Asian Journal of Endoscopic Surgery, 2017
AbstractA 43‐year‐old otherwise healthy woman was found to have a retroperitoneal mass during a routine medical examination and was referred for further evaluation. Abdominal CT scan showed a well‐delineated, low‐density area that exhibited heterogeneous contrast enhancement. The area measured about 20 mm in size and was to the left of the aorta at the

Graves' Disease and Recurrent Ectopic Thyroid Tissue

Thyroid, 1999
Ectopic thyroid tissue is the result of abnormal migration of the gland as it travels from the floor of the primitive foregut to its destined pretracheal position. The prevalence of ectopic thyroid tissue ranges between 7%-10%. Patients with ectopic thyroid tissue are usually euthyroid, but can present with signs and symptoms of upper aerodigestive ...

Abnormalities in the embryologic development and migration of the thyroid gland can result in ectopic thyroid tissue, which may occur on the midline in any position from the base of the tongue to the mediastinum. Although ectopic thyroid tissue may be asymptomatic, local obstructive, hemorrhagic or other complications may occur.

Ectopic Thyroid Tissue With Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

WMJ : official publication of the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, 2016
Ectopic thyroid gland is a rare occurrence with a prevalence of 1 per 100,000 to 300,000 people. Hashimoto's thyroiditis involving ectopic thyroid tissue is particularly unusual. We describe the presentation, workup, surgical management, and brief review of the literature.Retroactive review of an 83-year-old white female patient record.
