Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Ocean mesoscale structure–induced air–sea interaction in a high-resolution coupled model

open access: yesAtmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters, 2019
Using the Community Earth System Model framework, the authors build a very-high-resolution quasi-global coupled model by coupling an eddy-resolving quasi-global ocean model with a high-resolution atmospheric model.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Innovating Aircraft Repair Processes: The Role of Digitalization in Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This research explores how digitalization—by storing detailed non‐destructive testing data in structured DICONDE databases and creating a standard data model of the component—innovates aviation maintenance and repair processes. Coupled with a developed state‐based simulation model, it enables data‐driven, sustainable repair strategies that reduce waste,

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Copper–Tungsten Composites for Heat Sink Applications in High‐Power Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article demonstrates the successful qualification of a copper–tungsten composite for laser powder bed fusion. The resulting components exhibited high density, high thermal conductivity, and reduced thermal expansion. Heat sinks with complex geometries were successfully manufactured, clearly showcasing the material's potential for additive ...

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Statistical Assessment of Sea-Surface Salinity from SMAP: Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and a Promising Red Sea Application

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Sea-surface salinity (SSS) is an essential climate variable connected to Earth’s hydrological cycle and a dynamical component of ocean circulation, but its variability is not well-understood.

The Eddy-Driven Thermocline

open access: yesJournal of Physical Oceanography, 2004
Abstract The role of baroclinic eddies in transferring thermal gradients laterally, and thus determining the stratification of the ocean, is examined. The hypothesis is that the density differences imposed at the surface by differential heating are a source of available potential energy that can be partially released by mesocale eddies ...

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Global eddy-induced variation in the intensities of tropical cyclones

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
The life cycle of tropical cyclones (TCs) is characterized by phases of intensification and weakening, which depend on changes in TC intensity. Eddies, ubiquitously distributed across the global ocean, frequently interact with TCs and significantly ...
