The temporal trends and short‐ and long‐term mortality of people with acute myocardial infarction and rheumatoid arthritis: a nationwide cohort study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Aims We investigated whether a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects the quality of inpatient acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care and long‐term mortality post‐AMI. Methods We analysed data from 784,091 adults, 6,047 with a diagnosis of RA, from England and Wales hospitalised with AMI between 2005 and 2019 from the MINAP registry, linked ...

The influence of the long-lived quantum Hall potential on the characteristics of quantum devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Novel hysteretic effects are reported in magneto-transport experiments on lateral quantum devices. The effects are characterized by two vastly different relaxation times (minutes and days).

Efficient Process Development for Laser Powder Bed Fusion of a Soft‐Magnetic Metallic Glass Composite

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Iron‐based metallic glass alloys exhibit excellent soft‐magnetic properties, and unprecedented geometrical freedom in the design of soft‐magnetic metallic glass components is made possible by additive manufacturing. An efficient workflow for developing parameters for laser‐based powder bed fusion of a Fe‐based metallic glass alloy is presented along ...

Curvature-related eddy-current losses in laminated axial flux machine cores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper we present an axiperiodic quasi-static model to evaluate the magnetic flux density distribution and power loss due to curvature related radial flux in the laminated core of axial flux machines.

Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.

Deep learning to infer eddy heat fluxes from sea surface height patterns of mesoscale turbulence

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Eddy heat fluxes crucially affect large-scale oceanic currents but are challenging to monitor on a global scale. Here the authors develop a Deep Learning model to predict the eddy heat fluxes from sea surface height data only, bypassing the need for ...

Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Magnetic and Conductive Wood for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation
