Development of a simple and rapid diagnosis method for swine edema disease to specifically detect Stx2e protein by immunochromatographic test [PDF]

open access: bronzeMicrobiology and Immunology, 2016
ABSTRACTEdema disease in piglets is caused by Shiga toxin 2e (Stx2e)‐producing Escherichia coli. However, there is currently no available Stx2e‐specific immunochromatographic test strip to differentiate Stx2e from other types of Shiga toxin 2. In the present study, to develop an Stx2e‐specific immunochromatographic test strip, we isolated nine ...

Inhibitory Activities of Colicins against Escherichia coli Strains Responsible for Postweaning Diarrhea and Edema Disease in Swine [PDF]

open access: greenAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2004
ABSTRACT The efficacies of colicins E1 and N against Escherichia coli strains responsible for postweaning diarrhea and edema disease, two of the most prevalent disease problems for pigs in the United States, were determined in vitro.

PATHOLOGICAL STUDY ON AN OCCURRENCE OF SWINE : EDEMA DISEASE IN IWATE PREFECTURE IN 1959

open access: bronzeThe Japanese Journal of Veterinary Science, 1961

Colicins as antibiotic alternatives for the treatment and prevention of post-weaning diarrhea and edema disease in swine [PDF]

open access: gold, 2005
It is estimated that over 50% of all economic losses in weaned pigs are due to Escherichia coli infections, causing either diarrhea or edema disease. Despite animal health and economic concerns, concerns over the spread of antibiotic resistance will limit the types of antibiotics that can be used in production animals.

Specificity Evaluation of a Polyprotein-Based ELISA Designed for the Detection of Paratuberculosis in Multiple Species. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Int
Paratuberculosis (PTB) is a disease affecting ruminant animals. The etiological agent, Mycobacterium avium subspecies PTB (Map), is a short, Gram‐positive, acid‐fast bacillus. Due to the nature of PTB, diagnosis often occurs at advanced stages of the disease, following the onset of clinical symptoms and prior dissemination of the agent. The specificity
