An Information-Theoretic Framework for Evaluating Edge Bundling Visualization [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
Edge bundling is a promising graph visualization approach to simplifying the visual result of a graph drawing. Plenty of edge bundling methods have been developed to generate diverse graph layouts.

Edge Bundling in Information Visualization [PDF]

open access: yesTsinghua Science and Technology, 2013
The edge, which can encode relational data in graphs and multidimensional data in parallel coordinates plots, is an important visual primitive for encoding data in information visualization research.

An Evolutionary Algorithm for an Optimization Model of Edge Bundling [PDF]

open access: yesInformation, 2018
This paper discusses three edge bundling optimization problems that aim to minimize the total number of bundles of a graph drawing, in conjunction with other aspects, as the main goal.

Edge-Path Bundling: A Less Ambiguous Edge Bundling Approach [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2022
Edge bundling techniques cluster edges with similar attributes (i.e. similarity in direction and proximity) together to reduce the visual clutter. All edge bundling techniques to date implicitly or explicitly cluster groups of individual edges, or parts of them, together based on these attributes. These clusters can result in ambiguous connections that

Similarity-Driven Edge Bundling: Data-Oriented Clutter Reduction in Graphs Layouts

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2020
Graph visualization has been successfully applied in a wide range of problems and applications. Although different approaches are available to create visual representations, most of them suffer from clutter when faced with many nodes and/or edges.

Connexel Visualization: A software implementation of glyphs and edge-bundling for dense connectivity data using brainGL [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2014
The visualization of brain connectivity becomes progressively more challenging as analytic and computational advances begin to facilitate connexel-wise analyses, which include all connections between pairs of voxels.

Divided Edge Bundling for Directional Network Data [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2011
The node-link diagram is an intuitive and venerable way to depict a graph. To reduce clutter and improve the readability of node-link views, Holten & van Wijk's force-directed edge bundling employs a physical simulation to spatially group graph edges. While both useful and aesthetic, this technique has shortcomings: it bundles spatially proximal edges ...

Espin enhances confined cell migration by promoting filopodia formation and contributes to cancer metastasis [PDF]

open access: yesEMBO Reports
Genes regulating the finger-like cellular protrusions—filopodia have long been implicated in cancer metastasis. However, depleting the flat lamellipodia but retaining filopodia drastically hampers cell migration on spread surface, obscuring the role of ...

Edge Bundling Method Based on Homologous Control Points [PDF]

open access: yesJisuanji kexue, 2022
Edge bundling is an effective method to reduce the visual clutter caused by the visualization of the node-link diagram with a large number of complex connections.Generally, the edge bundling based on spatial proximity will lead to independent edge ...

Edge routing with ordered bundles [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Geometry, 2012
Edge bundling reduces the visual clutter in a drawing of a graph by uniting the edges into bundles. We propose a method of edge bundling drawing each edge of a bundle separately as in metro-maps and call our method ordered bundles. To produce aesthetically looking edge routes it minimizes a cost function on the edges.
