Morphologic edge detection

Edge operators based on gray-scale morphologic operations are introduced. These operators can be efficiently implemented in near real time machine vision systems which have special hardware support for gray-scale morphologic operations. The simplest morphologic edge detectors are the dilation residue and erosion residue operators.

Edge Detection at Junctions

This paper discusses the poor performance of the Canny edge detector at junctions formed by three edges, where connectivity is usually destroyed in an arbitrary way. This problem is shown to be due to the non-maximal suppression algorithm, used to identify points of inflection in the grey-level surface.

Detection of moving edges

A technique requiring only two frames is presented for finding time-varying edges in a dynamic scene. The frames need not be contiguous. The proposed operator picks up moving edge points which are not easily detected with simple static edge operators. The operator includes both change and edge detection in a way that improves overall performance.
