Spatial and Temporal Structure of Edge-Localized Modes
Physical Review Letters, 2004This Letter provides information on the spatial and temporal structure of periodic eruptions observed in magnetically confined laboratory fusion plasmas, called edge-localized modes (ELMs), and highlights similarities with solar eruptions. Taken together, the observations presented in this Letter provide strong evidence for ELMs being associated with a

Characteristics of edge localized modes in ASDEX Upgrade
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1996Characteristics of the various types of edge localized modes (ELMs) observed during the H-mode of the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak are presented. Magnetic high-mode-number ELM precursor activity is found for type I ELMs and type III ELMs, the former only during neutral beam injection in the counter direction.

Intrinsic Localized Anharmonic Modes at Crystal Edges
Physical Review Letters, 1995Using a realistic lattice-dynamical model for a diatomic crystal, time-periodic anharmonic vibrations have been found with displacement pattern localized at an edge of the crystal. The localization is not only in the direction normal, but also in the directions parallel to the edge along which the lattice is periodic.
