FEM analysis of edge preparation for chamfered tools

International Journal of Material Forming, 2009
The chamfer enhances the performance of the tool by strengthening the edge and reducing the possibility of tool wear and breakage. The strength of the chamfered tool can be investigated by analysis of process variables. This research investigates the effects of chamfer width and chamfer angle on process variables (force, stress, tool temperature and ...

Vibration Polishing Edge Preparation for Cemented Carbide Inserts

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Micro-cracks on cutting edge will cause early breakages on cutting tools, accelerate tool wear and reduce cemented carbide tool life. Edge preparation can improve the cutting edge quality. Vibration polishing experiments were carried out for cemented carbide inserts edge preparation.

Combination shoulder-feather edge veneer crown preparation

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1963
Abstract A technique has been presented in which a narrowed shoulder and apical collar are incorporated into a preparation for a veneer crown. This preparation allows for an accurate incorporation of the subgingival surfaces into the impression of the tooth.

Influence of Edge Preparation on Cutting Tool Wear

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Edge preparation is not only the process of grinding proper geometry of cutting edge or removing micro-cracks on cutting edge region, but also a way of improving cutting tool life. In this study, cutting models with different cutting edge radius were set up with FEM software.

Customized cutting edge preparation by means of grinding

Precision Engineering, 2013
Abstract Due to their low load resistance, sharp ground cutting edges are generally considered disadvantageous to high performance cutting processes. Consequently, providing additional cutting edge preparation in order to enhance tool-lifetime and – performance has become increasingly important.

Control of Built-Up Edge Behavior by Chamfered Cutting Edge Preparation and Surface Modification

Key Engineering Materials, 2012
A chamfered cutting edge, which is commonly shaped in order to strengthen an edge of a cutting tool consisting of brittle material, easily causes an enhanced adhesion and a burr formation due to high compressive stress anterior to the edge. These problems lead to a detachment of tool material and a notch wear at depth-of-cut line, which would result in

Edge preparation of carbide tools with abrasive brushing method

2011 Second International Conference on Mechanic Automation and Control Engineering, 2011
Edge preparation is a process to modify edge geometry and surface integrity of cutting tools. Cutting tools life can be improved by edge preparation. Edge preparation experiments of tungsten carbide tool were carried out with nylon abrasive brushes on lathe machine. Cutting tool edge surface was observed with optical microscope.
