Influence of preparation design on the quality of tooth preparation in preclinical dental education

open access: yesJournal of Dental Sciences, 2017
Background/purpose: One of the major educational goals in preclinical dental education is to learn tooth preparation techniques. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of different preparation designs on the development of the manual ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Symmetry-protected dissipative preparation of matrix product states

open access: yes, 2017
We propose and analyze a method for efficient dissipative preparation of matrix product states that exploits their symmetry properties. Specifically, we construct an explicit protocol that makes use of driven-dissipative dynamics to prepare the Affleck ...

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Fracture Resistance of Composite Veneers with Different Preparation Designs

open access: yesBalkan Journal of Dental Medicine, 2016
Background: The aim of this in vitro study was to examine the fracture load of composite veneers using three different preparation designs. Material and methods: Fifteen extracted, intact, human maxillary central incisors were selected.

Emerging role of ARHGAP29 in melanoma cell phenotype switching

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study gives first insights into the role of ARHGAP29 in malignant melanoma. ARHGAP29 was revealed to be connected to tumor cell plasticity, promoting a mesenchymal‐like, invasive phenotype and driving tumor progression. Further, it modulates cell spreading by influencing RhoA/ROCK signaling and affects SMAD2 activity. Rho GTPase‐activating protein

Nonlinear looped band structure of Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice

open access: yes, 2016
We study experimentally the stability of excited, interacting states of bosons in a double-well optical lattice in regimes where the nonlinear interactions are expected to induce "swallowtail" looped band structure.

Effect of edge preparation on hardness and corrosion behaviour of AA6061-T651 friction stir welds

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials
Novelty: In this study, friction stir welding of AA6061-T651 plates with square wave edge configuration on base material plates, as opposed to typical plain edges, can greatly improve the joint’s hardness and pitting corrosion behaviour.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.
