Mullite production by valorization of a hydrodesulphurization catalyst waste

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Due to its high alumina and silica content, Ni–Mo catalyst waste is a suitable, amorphous raw material for producing aluminosilicate phases. Thermal treatment of the waste at 1200°C for 30 min yields a material containing 50 wt.% mullite and exhibiting 96% overall crystallinity. The addition of amorphous silica significantly enhances mullite formation:

New advances in the carbonation of aluminous cement. Alkaline hydrolisis

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 1999
The carbonation process of aluminous cement in presence of high alkali content is studied. In this work, the formation of a compound which formula is close to K4Al6(CO3)11-x(OH)2x(H2O)y is shown for the studies samples. The aluminous cement carbonation

Facilitation of Lake Eutrophication by Altered Feedback Loops Between Submerged Macrophyte Vegetation and Phosphorus Retention

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 70, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Charophytes (stoneworts) often dominate the submerged vegetation in nutrient‐poor hardwater lakes, where they support high benthic phosphorus (P) retention. As a consequence, epilimnion P concentrations remain low and water clarity high, resulting in a positive feedback.

Calcium aluminate cement hydration in a high alkalinity environment

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2009
The present paper forms part of a broader research project that aims primarily to devise new cementitious products via the alkali activation of silico-aluminous materials.

Epiphyton phenology determines the persistence of submerged macrophytes: Exemplified in temperate shallow lakes

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue 3, Page 764-774, March 2025.
Abstract Submerged macrophytes are key components in many freshwater and marine ecosystems, contributing to ecosystem functions and services. In temperate shallow lakes, spring epiphyton shading can be decisive for submerged macrophyte development, potentially leading to macrophyte collapse and a shift to undesired, turbid conditions. Global change can

A Concrete Resistivity Method Based on a Simple Measuring Cell for Onsite Corrosion Monitoring: Study on Concrete Under Varying Conditions

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Concrete resistivity (ρ) is commonly monitored in situ using sensors based on the rebar‐disc (RDM) or four‐electrode (FEM) methods. This study validates, for the first time in reinforced concrete, an innovative corrosion sensor approach (CSA) previously tested only in simulated pore solutions.
