Ensemble habitat suitability modeling for predicting optimal sites for eelgrass (Zostera marina) in the tidal lagoon ecosystem: Implications for restoration and conservation.

Journal of Environmental Management, 2022
Seagrass systems are in decline, mainly due to anthropogenic pressures and ongoing climate change. Implementing seagrass protection and restoration measures requires accurate assessment of suitable habitats. Commonly, such assessments have been performed

Eelgrass (Zostera marina) and its epiphytic bacteria facilitate the sinking of microplastics in the seawater.

Environmental Pollution, 2021
Marine microplastics have received considerable attention as a global environmental issue. However, despite the constant accumulation of microplastics in the ocean, their transport processes and mechanisms remain poorly understood.

Warming sea surface temperatures fuel summer epidemics of eelgrass wasting disease

Marine Ecology Progress Series, 2021
Seawater temperatures are increasing, with many unquantified impacts on marine diseases. While prolonged temperature stress can accelerate host−pathogen interactions, the outcomes in nature are poorly quantified.

Physical disturbance by recovering sea otter populations increases eelgrass genetic diversity

Science, 2021
Description The importance of disturbance Work in sea otters over the last few decades has transformed our understanding of the importance of specific species, or keystones, as drivers of community structure and stability. Foster et al.

Sulfur accumulation in eelgrass (Zostera marina) and effect of sulfur on eelgrass growth

Aquatic Botany, 2005
Eelgrass (Zostera marina) was grown under exposure to high levels of sediment sulfides to examine their ability to reoxidize sulfides intruding into the plants. The plants were kept under full light (control and high sulfide level) and at 10% of light saturation (high sulfide level) for 3 weeks and growth and accumulation of elemental sulfur (S0) in ...

Synthetic Eelgrass

International Oil Spill Conference Proceedings, 2014
Inundation of biota in coastal waters by heavy smothering deposits of oil requires cleanup to enable ecological recovery within normal time scales. Conventional floating curtain and sorbent oil booms deployed to prevent such inundation have proven only marginally effective. Currents have advected oil under them.

Energetically feasible biohydrogen production from sea eelgrass via homogenization through a surfactant, sodium tripolyphosphate

, 2020
The present work aimed to increase the liquefaction and biohydrogen recovery of sea eelgrass by combining the surfactant, sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) with dispersion homogenization.

NUTRIENT DYNAMICS IN EELGRASS (ZOSTERA MARINA) MEADOW AND THE VARIATION OF NUTRIENT CONTENTS OF EELGRASS

Proceedings of International Conference "Managinag risks to coastal regions and communities in a changinag world" (EMECS'11 - SeaCoasts XXVI), 2017
Nutrient dynamics in seagrass beds and nutrient demands of seagrass biomass are not clear, although nutrient uptake of seagrass has been experimentally studied in the laboratory. We conducted the field observations and the bottom sediment core incubations to estimate nutrient fluxes in the seagrass, Zostera marina meadow.

Seagrass resilience: Where and how to collect donor plants for the ecological restoration of eelgrass Zostera marina in Rongcheng Bay, Shandong Peninsula, China

, 2020
As seagrasses are not available with commercial nursery stocks, the removal of a large amount of plant materials may damage donor populations. We evaluated the recovery of the eelgrass Zostera marina following the removal of entire plant patches (0.01–0 ...

Benthic Infauna of Eelgrass, Zostera marina, Beds

Chesapeake Science, 1973
The infauna ofZostera beds in the Chesapeake Bay-York River estuary and Chincoteague Bay was sampled in March and July 1970 using a corer. Sediments were fine sand or very fine sand. Sorting of sediments varied from poorly sorted to moderately well-sorted and appeared to be positively correlated with the density ofZostera at the respective stations.
