Use of relative odor activity value (ROAV) to link aroma profiles to volatile compounds: application to fresh and dried eel (Muraenesox cinereus)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2020
Volatile compounds in fresh and dried eels were investigated. Electronic nose (E-nose), headspace solid-phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS–SPME–GC–MS), and relative odor activity value (ROAV) were applied to ...

Developmental dynamics of cone photoreceptors in the eel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Many fish alter their expressed visual pigments during development. The number of retinal opsins expressed and their type is normally related to the environment in which they live.

MXene Wrapped Magnetic Mesocrystals for Durable Redox Catalytic Cancer Therapy and Responsive MRI

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Conformal wrapping of ultrathin Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets on Fe3O4 mesocrystals creates topology‐stabilized Schottky junctions that direct photoinduced electron transfer under NIR irradiation. The unique architecture sustains Fenton catalysis, promotes continuous hydroxyl radical production, and provides photo‐responsive MRI contrast.

Spatial Learning in Japanese Eels Using Extra- and Intra-Maze Cues

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2020
Japanese eels (Anguilla japonica) were trained on a spatial-learning paradigm in a pool placed in an experimental room where several extra-maze cues were present. Four tubes were placed in the pool, of which one was open and could be entered by the eels.

Differential timing of gene expression regulation between leptocephali of the two Anguilla eel species in the Sargasso Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The unique life-history characteristics of North Atlantic catadromous eels have long intrigued evolutionary biologists, especially with respect to mechanisms that could explain their persistence as two ecologically very similar but reproductively and ...

Multifunctional Gold Nanocluster‐Based PROTAC System for Targeted Degradation of Phosphorylated Tau and Modulation of Neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a novel proteolysis‐targeting chimera (PROTAC) system conjugated to lipoic acid gold nanoclusters (PLANC), designed to degrade pTau, regulate inflammatory signaling, and effectively traverse the blood‐brain barrier (BBB). PLANC degraded pTau at various phosphorylation sites, with mechanistic studies confirming proteasome‐mediated degradation

PENGARUH PADAT PENEBARAN TERHADAP PERTAMBAHAN BERAT DAN PANJANG BADAN BELUT SAWAH (MONOPTERUS ALBUS)

open access: yesJurnal Biologi Udayana, 2014
This experiment performed to find out the effect of stocking density on body weight and body length of freshwater eel (Monopterus albus). In this experiment 160 individual freshwater eels that planted in 20 clay pots.

Immunogenicity of a bivalent protein as a vaccine against Edwardsiella anguillarum and Vibrio vulnificus in Japanese eel (Anguilla japonica)

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, 2019
The OMPs A (OmpA)—of Edwardsiella anguillarum and OmpU of V. vulnificus have been proven to be good antigens. In this study, after construction of a vector, a new recombinant Omp (rOMP) containing both OmpA and OmpU was expressed and purified.

Effects of dietary Chinese herbal medicines mixture on growth performance, digestive enzyme activity and serum biochemical parameters of European eel, Anguilla anguilla

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2020
A feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of Chinese herbal medicines mixture (CHMM) on growth performance, digestive enzyme activity and serum biochemical parameters of European eels, Anguilla anguilla (initial weight 6.19±0.09 g).

Escapement of a silver-phase eel population, Anguilla anguilla, determined from fishery in a Mediterranean lagoon (Or, France) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Escapement of silver eels from a Mediterranean lagoon was estimated by a capture–tagging–recapture and automated tag-reading study. The population of silver-phase eels in the lagoon was estimated to be 13.2 kg ha21, with an escapement rate from the ...
