Reproducing National Distinction: How Cultural Capital Shapes Estonia's Russian School Field

open access: yesNations and Nationalism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Research on nationalism has long emphasized the homogenizing role of education in producing shared language, history and identity, while studies in the sociology of education have examined how cultural capital and social class structure school hierarchies.

Sound offset responses become highly informative in the auditory cortex

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Using large datasets of neural responses to diverse sounds recorded across four stages of the mouse auditory system (depicted and colour‐coded on the left), offset responses occurring after the termination of each sound (time window indicated by the orange shaded area superimposed with activity traces) were characterized and it ...

Nationwide Study on the Cervical Cancer Screening Pathway in Estonia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 4, Page 883-895, 15 August 2026.
Cervical cancer remains a significant burden despite being preventable, largely due to inadequate screening participation and poor follow‐up of high‐risk women. Here, the authors investigated follow‐up rates among women who tested positive for high‐risk human papillomavirus (hr‐HPV) infection in primary screening in Estonia. Data show that more than 57

Electrooxidative Iodination of Carbonyl Compounds: A Mild, Simple, and Scalable Access to α‐Iodocarbonyls

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 13, Issue 13, 2 July 2026.
The efficient electrochemical synthesis of iodinated carbonyl compounds, valuable building blocks, is reported. The method relies on the controlled generation of electrophilic iodine species from simple and inexpensive iodide salts under mild electrochemical conditions, enabling excellent compatibility with aldehydes bearing sensitive functional groups.

Long‐term aridity shapes grassland drought resistance and modulates the roles of plant diversity and functional composition

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 7, July 2026.
Widely studied stability drivers such as plant diversity and functional composition have only partial explanatory power for short‐term drought resistance of above‐ground productivity in grasslands at a global scale. The abiotic context, particularly long‐term aridity, is crucial for understanding ecosystem responses to rainfall variation and can ...

Evolutionary Conservation of Reproductive Strategies in the Lichen Genus Cetrelia (Parmeliaceae, Ascomycota): Insights Into Symbiont Interactions and Macroclimatic Influences

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 32, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Fungi show a variety of reproductive strategies, switching between haploid and diploid forms to benefit from both, the acquisition of genetic variability through sexual reproduction and rapid population growth via asexual reproduction. Throughout the history of lichenology, lichen reproductive modes (e.g., soredia, isidia, apothecia) have ...

First Report of the Malacosporean Parasite Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae in the Faroe Islands Reveals Widespread Distribution and High Prevalence in Brown Trout

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 49, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The myxozoan endoparasite Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae (Tb), the causative agent of proliferative kidney disease (PKD) in salmonids, has predominantly been reported in temperate regions of continental Europe and North America. Here, we present the first record of Tb in the Faroe Islands, extending the known northern distribution of the ...
