Seepage Effects on Dune Dimensions

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2007
This note presents an experimental study of seepage effects on the dimensions of a dune: its height, length and lee-side slope. The critical slope of a cohesionless material was found to be related to the ratio of the hydraulic gradient of seepage to its critical value under the quick condition.

Effective dimension in flocking mechanisms

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
Even in its minimal representation (Vicsek Model, VM [T. Vicsek, A. Czirok, E. Ben‐Jacob, I. Cohen and O. Shochet. Phys. Rev. Lett. 75, 1226 (1995).]), the widespread phenomenon of flocking raises intriguing questions to the statistical physicists. While the VM is very close to the better understood XY Model because they share many symmetry properties,

Dimensions of Effective College Instruction

The Review of Higher Education, 1985
Prior research on the dimensions of effective college instruction is critically summarized. Problems with factor analytic studies include: the lack of a theoretical rationale for item selection; the use of incorrect units of analysis; the lack of student randomization to classes; the failure to control for setting effects; and, low content and ...
