Dimensions of Teacher Effectiveness
Teaching Sociology, 1978Authors' Note: A list of the evaluation items analyzed here is available from the first author. The contributions to thisproject from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, North Carolina State University, its faculty, and its students are appreciated. Special gratitude is expressed to our colleagues Man M. Sawhney and Patricia L. Tobin, as well

Mathematical Logic Quarterly, 2004
AbstractClassical fractal dimensions (Hausdorff dimension and packing dimension) have recently been effectivized by (i) characterizing them in terms of real‐valued functions called gales, and (ii) imposing computability and complexity constraints on these gales.

Quantized Hall effect in three dimensions
Physical Review B, 1990When the Fermi level lies in a gap, the Hall conductivity of three-dimensional (3D) electrons in a periodic potential can be expressed in a topologically invariant form with a set of three integers. These integers are explicitly found as a solution of a Diophantine equation, the structure of which relies on the flux of the magnetic field through three ...

The spatial dimensions of neighborhood effects
Social Science & Medicine, 2009In the decade or so of renewed interest in neighborhood contexts and health, significant progress has been made conceptualizing the relationships between the urban environment and public health. Applied research on the link between the environment and health remains limited by the way spatial concepts, such as "the neighborhood" or "the built ...

Intrauterine Hormone Effects on Tooth Dimensions
Journal of Dental Research, 2013The human dentition is a complex adaptive system that is influenced by genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors. Within this system, is sexual dimorphism related to the growth promotion of the Y chromosome, or to hormonal influences, or both? This study is the first to investigate both primary and permanent tooth sizes in females from opposite ...

Correlation dimension and systematic geometric effects
Physical Review A, 1990Correlation-dimension calculations have been widely undertaken in attempts to understand various physical and other natural phenomena. Some of these studies have perhaps been incautious in their claims. On the other hand, some authors have been sharply critical of such work. These criticisms hinge on doubts about data-set size.

Effective dimension in flocking mechanisms
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011Even in its minimal representation (Vicsek Model, VM [T. Vicsek, A. Czirok, E. Ben‐Jacob, I. Cohen and O. Shochet. Phys. Rev. Lett. 75, 1226 (1995).]), the widespread phenomenon of flocking raises intriguing questions to the statistical physicists. While the VM is very close to the better understood XY Model because they share many symmetry properties,

Seepage Effects on Dune Dimensions
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2007This note presents an experimental study of seepage effects on the dimensions of a dune: its height, length and lee-side slope. The critical slope of a cohesionless material was found to be related to the ratio of the hydraulic gradient of seepage to its critical value under the quick condition.

Supersymmetric effective action in three dimensions
Physical Review D, 1986A perturbative calculation of the parity-violating part of the supersymmetric effective action for a scalar superfield coupled to a background-gauge superfield in three dimensions is presented using the massless version of the Bogolubov-Parasiuk-Hepp-Zimmermann renormalization procedure.

Effectiveness Dimension of Performance
2014The two components of health care facility performance, efficiency and effectiveness (quality), were introduced in Chap. 1. In this chapter, a closer examination of the effectiveness component is provided. Sherman and Zhu (2006) introduce quality-adjusted DEA applied to bank branches.
