Effects of psychological distance on attraction effect
The Journal of Social Psychology, 2018The present study demonstrated that psychological distance influences the attraction effect by changing the weights of the attributes of options. Construal level theory proposes that the weight of a superordinate attribute increases with psychological distance, whereas the weight of a subordinate attribute decreases with psychological distance.

Effects of Distance on Vocal Intensity
Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1995The vocal response of speakers to change of distance from a listener is in dispute. Warren (1968) found that speakers obeyed the inverse square law when compensating for distance changes; that is, they decreased their vocal intensity by 6 dB when distance was halved.

Are Distance Effects Really a Puzzle
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2009In this paper, I use gravity equation with all the possible controls and a large bilateral panel data over 50 years and more than175 countries to estimate the distance effect from 1950 to 1999. An extensive search reveals some new results: different from previous finding that distance effects rose around the middle of the 20th century, distances ...

Effects of limited input distance constraints upon the distance geometry algorithm
Biopolymers, 1991AbstractIn this paper we examine the distance geometry (DG) algorithm in the form used to determine the structure of proteins. We focus on three aspects of the algorithm: bound smoothing with the triangle inequality, the random selection of distances within the bounds, and the number of distances needed to specify a structure. Computational experiments

Effective Practices in Distance Education
Computers in the Schools, 2001Distance education is changing the landscape of higher education and many faculty are now developing Web-based courses. This paper describes the lessons learned by the authors' experiences and research and offers a specific set of pedagogical and assessment strategies that they have found to be successful in online settings. The authors have found that

Inter‐Site Distance Effect in Electrocatalysis
Angewandte ChemieAbstractThe inter‐site distance effect (ISDE) has gained significant attention in heterogeneous catalysis, challenging classical models that treat adjacent nonbonded sites as isolated. Recent studies demonstrate that these sites can exhibit long‐range cooperative interactions, enhancing reaction efficiencies.

Future events are far away: Exploring the distance-on-distance effect.
Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 2014Four dimensions of psychological distance (temporal, social, spatial, and probabilistic) have been widely studied. This research examines the distance-on-distance effect where an event that is close or distal along one dimension of psychological distance will be judged to be close or distal along other dimensions. For example, individuals will perceive

Feature selection with effective distance
Neurocomputing, 2016Abstract As more features are introduced in pattern recognition and machine learning applications, feature selection remains a critically important task to find the most compact representation of data, especially in unsupervised learning scenarios without enough class labels.

How Effective Is Social Distancing?
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2020We identify the dynamic effects of social distancing policy on reducing the transmission of the COVID-19 spread. We build a model that measures the relative frequency and geographic distribution of the virus growth rate and provides hypothetical infection distribution in the states that enacted the social distancing policy, where we control all time ...
