Effective Distance for Vortex Generators in High Subsonic Flows
Vortex generators (VGs) are a passive method by which to alleviate boundary layer separation (BLS). The device-induced streamwise vortices propagate downstream. There is then lift-off from the surface and the vortex decays.

Exploring the mechanisms behind the country-specific time of Zika virusimportation
The international spread of Zika virus (ZIKV) began in Brazil in 2015. To estimate the risk of observing imported ZIKV cases, we calculated effective distance, typically an excellent predictor of arrival time, from airline network data.

Effective distance between nested Margulis tubes [PDF]
We give sharp, effective bounds on the distance between tori of fixed injectivity radius inside a Margulis tube in a hyperbolic 3-manifold.Comment: 25 pages, 3 figures. v3 contains minor revisions.

Short distance behaviour of the effective string [PDF]
We study the Polyakov loop correlator in the (2+1) dimensional Z_2 gauge model. An algorithm that we have presented recently, allows us to reach high precision results for a large range of distances and temperatures, giving us the opportunity to test ...

From QCD to Dual Superconductivity to Effective String Theory [PDF]
We show how an effective field theory of long distance QCD, describing a dual superconductor, can be expressed as an effective string theory of superconducting vortices. We use the semiclassical expansion of this effective string theory about a classical

Effective Integration of Distance Courses Through Project-Based Learning
The paper aims to single out critical success factors contributing to efficient implementation of distance learning practices and to explain the role of project-based learning in ensuring effective teaching of profession-oriented foreign language in a ...

Semantic distance effects in naming superordinates [PDF]
The time to select a superordinate label in response to a target word is shown to be a function of the normative likelihood of the target being produced as an exemplar of the superordinate. This extends the scope of semantic distance effects to a new task situation.

Einstein Gravity as an emergent phenomenon? [PDF]
In this essay we marshal evidence suggesting that Einstein gravity may be an emergent phenomenon, one that is not ``fundamental'' but rather is an almost automatic low-energy long-distance consequence of a wide class of theories.

Numerical distance effects in visual search [PDF]
We present three experiments in which observers searched for a target digit among distractor digits in displays in which the mean numerical target-distractor distance was varied. Search speed and accuracy increased with numerical distance in both target-present and target-absent trials (Exp. 1A).
