Abstract A method for estimating the rainfall effective in generating runoff is presented which is based on the infiltration process. With the use of the known equations which describe the ponding infiltration rate in time, a functional relationship between the cumulative infiltration and the maximum possible infiltration rate is stated.

Boundary effects of rainfall-induced landslides
Computers and Geotechnics, 2014In the study of landslides, it is generally assumed that an impermeable boundary exists at a certain depth and failure occurs at this boundary. In reality this is not always the case and failures can occur at any depth. This paper aims to study the effect of boundary conditions on landslides, using a series of seepage and stability analyses performed ...

The effect of rainfall changes on economic production
Nature, 2022Macro-economic assessments of climate impacts lack an analysis of the distribution of daily rainfall, which can resolve both complex societal impact channels and anthropogenically forced changes1-6. Here, using a global panel of subnational economic output for 1,554 regions worldwide over the past 40 years, we show that economic growth rates are ...

Evaluating effectiveness of rainfall index insurance
Agricultural Finance Review, 2018PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the reduction of crop yield uncertainty using rainfall index insurances. The insurance payouts are determined by a transparent rainfall index rather than actual crop yield of any producer, thereby circumventing problems of adverse selection and moral hazard.

Effects of rainfall on aircraft aerodynamics
Progress in Aerospace Sciences, 2014Abstract Rainfall has been considered as an important meteorological factor to threat aircraft flight safety. Adverse effects of rainfall on aircraft aerodynamics have been a constantly hot subject in meteorological aviation community for decades.

Effective Rainfall and Irrigation Water Requirements
Journal of the Irrigation and Drainage Division, 1964Few studies have been made giving a comprehensive picture of effective rainfall and irrigation water requirements in the United States. The geographical distribution of effective-total rainfall ratios are displayed on two maps for two levels of consumptive use for 22 widely separated stations. This ratio, which varies from less than 50% to greater than

The effect of model grid length and orographic rainfall 'efficiency' on computed surface rainfall
Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1977AbstractSurface rainfall distributions over North and South Wales are derived using a numerical parameterization model. Several different grid lengths are used which allow the dependence on grid length of areal rainfall produced by the model to be examined.
