Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Revisiting thermo-physical property models of Al2O3-Water nanofluid for natural convective flow

open access: yesHeliyon
One of the comprehensive ways of heat transport performance augmentation of thermo-fluid systems is to use nanofluid over base fluid. This study mainly scrutinizes several existing models of thermal conduction coefficient and absolute viscosity of Al2O3 ...

Deformation behavior of semi-solid hypereutectic Al-Si alloy compressed in the drop-forge viscometer

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
The aim of this study is to investigate the rheological behavior for a semi-solid forming of Al−25 mass % Si alloy, i.e., hypereutectic Al-Si alloy, using a self-made parallel-plate drop-forge viscometer.

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Deflocculation of Kaolin Suspensions – The Effect of Various Electrolytes

open access: yesApplied Rheology, 2015
Viscosity reduction of aqueous kaolin suspensions by conventional additives (deflocculation) is studied, using standard viscosity measurements. Apparent viscosity at 100 s-1, and flow behavior index n give complex information about changes of viscosity ...

THEORETICAL MODEL FOR CALCULATION OF THE EFFECTIVE SHEAR VISCOSITY OF A PSEUDO-PLASTIC MATERIAL IN A FRACTURE

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Нефть и газ, 2016
The ultimate goal of this work was to develop a method which can be used in mature oil fields to determine the effective viscosity of the granulated gel (PPG) used for plugging the anthropogenic fractures (after FHF).

A numerical study of squeeze-film damping in MEMS-based structures including rarefaction effects [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2013
In a variety of MEMS applications, the thin film of fluid responsible of squeeze-film damping results to be rarefied and, thus, not suitable to be modeled though the classical Navier-Stokes equation.

Viscosity Effects in Acoustic Inductances [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1951
The linear acoustic inductance and resistance of narrow circular tubes, short compared to a wavelength, have usually been represented by limiting formulas valid either for very low frequencies (viscous flow) or for relatively high frequencies (pistonlike displacement).
