Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Analysis of Heat Transfer for the Copper–Water Nanofluid Flow through a Uniform Porous Medium Generated by a Rotating Rigid Disk

open access: yesMathematics
This study theoretically investigates the temperature and velocity spatial distributions in the flow of a copper–water nanofluid induced by a rotating rigid disk in a porous medium. Unlike previous work on similar systems, we assume that the disk surface

Hall viscosity, spin density, and torsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the relationship between Hall viscosity, spin density and response to geometric torsion. For the most general effective action for relativistic gapped systems, the presence of non-universal terms implies that there is no relationship ...

Viscosity of an ideal relativistic quantum fluid: A perturbative study

open access: yes, 2012
We show that a quantized ideal fluid will generally exhibit a small but non-zero viscosity due to the backreaction of quantum soundwaves on the background.

Universal Scaling Laws for Dense Particle Suspensions in Turbulent Wall-Bounded Flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The macroscopic behavior of dense suspensions of neutrally-buoyant spheres in turbulent plane channel flow is examined. We show that particles larger than the smallest turbulence scales cause the suspension to deviate from the continuum limit in which ...

Manufacturing Continuous Fiber‐Reinforced Printing Filaments: Development of a Post‐Consolidation Unit

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, temperature‐controlled post‐consolidation unit is developed to test its potential to improve the melt impregnation process used to manufacture continuous fiber‐reinforced filaments for additive manufacturing of high‐performance thermoplastics.

A numerical study of squeeze-film damping in MEMS-based structures including rarefaction effects

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2012
In a variety of MEMS applications, the thin film of fluid responsible of squeeze-film damping results to be rarefied and, thus, not suitable to be modeled though the classical Navier-Stokes equation.

The stickiness of sound: An absolute lower limit on viscosity and the breakdown of second order relativistic hydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2011
Hydrodynamics predicts long-lived sound and shear waves. Thermal fluctuations in these waves can lead to the diffusion of momentum density, contributing to the shear viscosity and other transport coefficients.

Viscous interfacial layer formation causes electroosmotic mobility reversal in monovalent electrolytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We study the ion density, shear viscosity and electroosmotic mobility of an aqueous monovalent electrolyte at a charged solid surface using molecular dynamics simulations.

Unidirectional Tape‐Based Composites from Hemp and Pineapple Leaf Fiber: Mechanical Performance in Conventional and Bio‐Based Matrices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study investigates novel semi‐finished products made of unidirectionally arranged hemp or pineapple leaf fiber‐reinforced composites produced from different matrices. The materials are analyzed in terms of their mechanical and interfacial properties and void content.
