Effective Width of Thin Rectangular Plates
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1958The behavior of simply supported rectangular plates subjected to edge compression in one direction is investigated by means of load-shortening tests. The data are presented by non-dimensional curves and compared with the theoretic results of Levy and Coan and the experimental data of Sechler, Winter, and Lahde and Wagner.

Slit-Width Effects in Spectrophotometry
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1950A technique is suggested which allows an estimate to be made of the errors introduced into spectrophotometric measurements by the use of slits of finite width. The technique depends upon approximate analytic expressions for the slit function, the variation of the instrument sensitivity with wave-length, and the variation of the absorption coefficient ...

Effective Width Criteria for Composite Beams
Engineering Journal, 1985A key factor in the analysis and design of composite flexural members is the effective width of the slab, i.e., that part of the slab that can be relied upon to act compositely with the steel beam. The current design specification for steel building structures in the United States3 gives detailed criteria, as do others.

Width effect of interfacial bond characteristics
Construction and Building Materials, 2019Abstract The bond properties of an interface in composite structures are generally considered as local mechanical characteristics. Through experimental testing and analytical study, it is shown in this work that the interfacial bond characteristics are generally size dependent, which involve both Mode II and Mode III fractures.

Width effects on bilayer graphene nanoribbon polarons
Physical Chemistry Chemical PhysicsThe work reports the width effects on the formation of interlayer polarons on graphene nanoribbon bilayers. Their properties greatly depend on the width extension. The 3p and 3p + 1 family grouping is recovered for the polaron states.

Finite Slit-Width Effect in Spectropolarimeters
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1966The influence of finite spectral slit width on optical rotatory dispersion measurements in the neighborhood of an absorption band is investigated theoretically. The result is a spurious Cotton-effect, the magnitude of which depends on the relative spectral slit width, the maximum absorption coefficient, and the slope of the rotatory power. Formulae and

Effective widths of plates loaded uniaxially
Thin-Walled Structures, 1983Abstract An approximate method for the analysis of axially loaded plates with initial imperfections is presented. Formulae for the computation of effective widths of rectangular plates having nine different combinations of boundary conditions have been derived using the energy method; all the boundary edges are constrained to remain straight in-plane,

Effective and circuit band widths
Electrical Engineering, 1949IN RECENT YEARS, the term “effective band width” has been used so frequently in the literature that it appears desirable to distinguish it from the more familiar band-width concept employed to specify the frequency discriminating properties of selective networks.

The Effect of Seal Width on Regenerator Effectiveness
Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 1993The effect of axial conduction on regenerator effectiveness has been studied in the past under the assumption of zero seal width. The effect of axial conduction coupled with finite seal width is presented in this paper. A method for calculating effectiveness assuming axial conduction and finite seal width is presented.

Effect of Stance Width on Multidirectional Postural Responses
Journal of Neurophysiology, 2001The effect of stance width on postural responses to 12 different directions of surface translations was examined. Postural responses were characterized by recording 11 lower limb and trunk muscles, body kinematics, and forces exerted under each foot of 7 healthy subjects while they were subjected to horizontal surface translations in 12 different ...
