Energy Efficiency: Efficiency or Monopsony? [PDF]
The cliche in the electricity sector, the "cheapest power plant is the one we don't build," seems to neglect the benefits of the energy that plant would generate. Those overall benefits could be countered by benefits to consumers if "not building that plant" was the result of monopsony.

The (In)Efficiency of interaction [PDF]
Evaluating higher-order functional programs through abstract machines inspired by the geometry of the interaction is known to induce space efficiencies, the price being time performances often poorer than those obtainable with traditional, environment-based, abstract machines.

Numerical research on cross-ventilation flow of a generic building in unsheltered and sheltered conditions: impact of cross-section [PDF]
The performances of ventilation in the buildings with quadrate and cylindrical cross-sections are compared numerically. The incoming jet in the cylindrical unsheltered-building is more horizontal in comparison to the quadrate unsheltered-building.

Efficient and Nearly-Efficient Partnerships [PDF]
This paper shows in two ways that the degree to which free-riding diminishes the performance of deterministic partnerships may be less than has been generally thought. First, a necessary and sufficient condition is provided for a partnership to sustain full efficiency.

Screening for sickle cell disease in newborns: a systematic review
Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited autosomal recessive disorder caused by the replacement of normal haemoglobin (HbA) by mutant Hb (sickle Hb, HbS). The sickle-shaped red blood cells lead to haemolysis and vaso-occlusion.
