Anaerobic Process for Biohydrogen Production using Keratin Degraded Effluent

open access: yes, 2019
Fossil fuel energy depletion and removal of environmental wastes are big problem in many countries. Some of the wastes contain a considerable amount of protein and carbon compounds; little concentration is given to utilizing or recycling these wastes ...

Adhesion‐Driven Removal of Microplastics From Aquatic Systems by Using Microgel Glues

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soft polymeric microgels function as “glues” that aggregate diverse microplastics through multivalent adhesion, promoting their interfacial deposition and co‐precipitation for efficient removal from water. Remarkably, this approach remains effective even for nanoscale plastic particles as small as 50 nm.

Menstrual effluent induces epithelial-mesenchymal transitions in mesothelial cells

open access: yes, 2004
Background\ud \ud Menstrual effluent affects mesothelial cell (MC) morphology. We evaluated whether these changes were consistent with epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMT).

Breaking the Bottleneck in Limit of Detection of Surface Refractive Index Sensing by Harnessing Meta‐Waveguide Microring Resonators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mode splitting in meta‐waveguide microring resonators (MWMRs) effectively suppresses baseline drift and measurement noise while maintaining high refractive‐index sensitivity. This reflection‐induced mode splitting strategy enables quantitative detection of ultra‐weak surface perturbations and establishes MWMRs as a robust, drift‐immune platform for ...

Changes in chemical attributes of a Fluvent cultivated with castor bean and irrigated with wastewater Alterações nos atributos químicos de um Neossolo Flúvico cultivado com mamoneira e irrigado com água residuária

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental, 2013
Agricultural use of wastewater is an alternative to increase water availability, especially in semiarid regions. However, it may cause undesirable chemical changes in the soil.

Symposium no. 54 Paper no. 1905 Presentation: poster 1905-1

open access: yes, 2007
To evaluate the role of artificial drainage systems in the transfer of nutrients and faecal organisms from soil to waterways, mole-tile drainage flows were monitored from 2 large (27 x 40 m), hydrologically isolated field plots that were part of a long ...

Phosphorus removal in passive treatment technologies for tertiary wastewater treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The treatment of phosphorus at small sewage works requires alternative approaches to the traditional chemical precipitation and biological removal pathways, as such approaches do not align well to the requirements at such a scale in relation to the use

Simultaneous Wastewater‐to‐Hydrogen Upgrading via Mechanically Driven Piezocatalysis Over Ag‐ZnO Nanorods

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A piezocatalytic strategy enables simultaneous wastewater purification and hydrogen generation by harnessing mechanical energy. Complementary piezo‐induced charges are selectively directed toward oxidation and reduction pathways, achieving efficient pollutant degradation and continuous H2 evolution.

Bioinspired Interfacial Hydration Engineering via Metal–Organic Frameworks for Efficient Nitrate‐To‐Ammonia Conversion in Neutral Media

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by Nitrite reductase, a metal–organic framework overlayer is introduced to regulate the interfacial hydration microenvironment on Cu electrodes, enriching hydrated K+ species that act as efficient proton donors. This strategy enables nitrate‐to‐ammonia conversion with near‐unity selectivity at industrial‐level current densities in neutral ...
