Non-Local Order Parameters as a Probe for Phase Transitions in the Extended Fermi-Hubbard Model

open access: yes, 2016
The Extended Fermi-Hubbard model is a rather studied Hamiltonian due to both its many applications and a rich phase diagram. Here we prove that all the phase transitions encoded in its one dimensional version are detectable via non-local operators ...

Impact of Structural Heterogeneities in Hierarchically Grown Microribbons on 2D WS2 Monolayer on the Measured Local Hydrogen Evolution Activity on Au Substrate

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Spatially resolved SECCM measurements reveal that hierarchically grown microribbons on 2D WS2 drastically suppress local HER activity. Relative to the basal plane of the 2D monolayer directly supported on an Au substrate, single‐layer and multilayer microribbons exhibit more than a ∼5‐fold and >10‐fold decrease in current density, respectively.

Rapid generation of prion disease models using AAV‐delivered PrP variants in knockout mice

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
We developed a rapid AAV‐based system to generate prion disease models in weeks rather than months. Following systemic AAV9P31 delivery of modified PrP to knockout mice, we achieved brain‐wide expression and successful propagation of both classical (RML) and atypical (GSS‐A117V) prion strains.

Fructus mume Extracts Alleviate Diarrhea in Breast Cancer Patients Receiving the Combination Therapy of Lapatinib and Capecitabine

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2018
Lapatinib and capecitabine have been widely used in the therapy of breast cancer. However, long-term use of lapatinib and capecitabine often causes the most common side effect diarrhea, which limit the medicine use. Fructus mume (F. mume) has been proved

Effect of Electrospun Fiber Mat Thickness and Support Method on Cell Morphology

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2019
Electrospun fiber mats (EFMs) are highly versatile biomaterials used in a myriad of biomedical applications. Whereas some facets of EFMs are well studied and can be highly tuned (e.g., pore size, fiber diameter, etc.), other features are under ...

Bayes Theorem and Protopathic Bias: Methodological Concerns When Addressing the Impact of Fetal Heart Rate Patterns on the Cesarean Section Rate

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Perinatology Reports, 2020
Over the last 30 years, the caesarean section rate has reached global epidemic proportions. This trend is driven by multiple factors, an important one of which is the use and inconsistent interpretation of the electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) system ...
