Innate immunity, assessed by plasma NO measurements, is not suppressed during the incubation fast in eiders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Immunity is hypothesized to share limited resources with other physiological functions and may mediate life history trade-offs, for example between reproduction and survival.

Colonization and spatiotemporal distribution of bruchid pests in lentil and faba bean fields

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study of 104 fields identifies Bruchus signaticornis in lentils and B. rufimanus in faba beans as the sole grain‐damaging species. Their uniform distribution within fields and the strong effect of regulatory factors on larvae and egg survival emphasize the need for species‐specific, phenology‐based and spatially informed integrated pest management

The continuing significance of chiral agrochemicals

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1697-1716, April 2025.
In the time frame 2018–2023, around 43% of the 35 chiral agrochemicals introduced to the market (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, acaricides, and nematicides) contain one or more stereogenic centers in the molecule, and almost 69% of them have been marketed as racemic mixtures of enantiomers or stereoisomers.

Developmental plasticity and variability in the formation of egg‐spots, a pigmentation ornament in the cichlid Astatotilapia calliptera

open access: yesEvolution & Development
Abstract Vertebrate pigmentation patterns are highly diverse, yet we have a limited understanding of how evolutionary changes to genetic, cellular, and developmental mechanisms generate variation. To address this, we examine the formation of a sexually‐selected male ornament exhibiting inter‐ and intraspecific ...

The power of expressed humility: Early stage investors' reaction to humble entrepreneurs

open access: yesStrategic Entrepreneurship Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary We examine how entrepreneur‐expressed humility affects early stage investors' willingness to fund new ventures. In pitching contexts where investors rely on relational cues and implicit prototypes of entrepreneurs, we theorize three distinct pathways through which expressed humility shapes funding decisions. First, building on

Unraveling the Physicochemical Landscape of Organoselenium Compounds in Nanocarrier Systems

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
Main nanocarriers employed to enhance the bioavailability and transport of organoselenium compounds. The image illustrates the key interaction forces that stabilize these organoselenium species in solution, enabling their application in drug delivery systems, catalysis, photoelectronic devices, and sensing technologies. In recent years, publications on

Effect of Extenders and Osmotic Pressure on Storage of Eggs of Ornamental Common Carp Cyprinus carpio at Ambient and Refrigerated Temperatures

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, 2002
AbstractThe eggs of ornamental (koi) common carp Cyprinus carpi0 were stored at ambient temperature (∼22–25 C) and at refrigerated temperatures (0–20 C) in extenders at different osmolalities. The treatments evaluated were dry (control), calcium‐free Hanks’balanced salt solution (C‐F HBSS), salt (NaCl), synthetic ovarian fluid (SOF), and Kurokura #2 ...

Evaluating Thiram‐Induced Embryotoxicity Using Integrated In Silico, In Vitro, and Transcriptomic Approaches

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Long‐term exposure to low‐dose food contact materials (FCMs) has raised concerns regarding developmental toxicity. In the present study, we prioritized FCMs with potential developmental toxicity using a weight‐of‐evidence computational model, which predicted 127 chemicals to be of high concern.
