Protein constituents of the eggshell: eggshell-specific matrix proteins
Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2009In this article, we review the results of recent proteomic and genomic analyses of eggshell matrix proteins and draw attention to the impact of these data on current understanding of eggshell formation and function. Eggshell-specific matrix proteins from avian (ovocleidins and ovocalyxins) and non-avian (paleovaterin) shells are discussed. Two possible

Characterization and adsorption properties of eggshells and eggshell membrane
Bioresource Technology, 2006The objective of this work was to study the chemical and physical characterization of eggshell and eggshell membrane particles prepared from the hen eggshell waste. Under the characterization measurements investigated, it was found that the pore structures of the two biomaterials belong to a typical Type II, indicating that they should be basically ...

Blus, Gish, Belisle and Prouty allege that DDE causes eggshell thinning in brown pelicans and that the relationship is logarithmic1. In support of their conclusion that a cause and effect relationship between DDE and shell thinning exists, they offer as evidence Wiemeyer and Porter's2 work with kestrels.

Drosophila melanogaster eggshell adhesive
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1967Abstract Drosophila melanogaster eggshells contain an adhesive which cements the egg to fruit tissue. Similarity in staining of the female accessory glands and the adhesive layer on the eggshell, and lack of adhesive on mature oocytes dissected from the ovarioles, demonstrate that the adhesive is secreted by the accessory glands.

Relationship between eggshell strength and keratan sulfate of eggshell membranes
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2007Eggshell strength is an important factor in an effort to minimize eggshell breakage, which is a significant problem in the egg production industry. In the current study, we isolated and quantified the specific glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) from the calcified eggshell and shell membranes, which are related to eggshell strength.

Value-added Uses of Eggshell and Eggshell Membranes
2019The chicken egg is a crucial source of high-quality human nutrition. Massive numbers of eggs are produced annually with a significant proportion (30%) being processed in industrial breaking plants, leading to the accumulation of eggshell (ES) and eggshell membrane (ESM) waste.

Eggshell Aspiration in Infants
Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1975Two infants inhaled eggshell fragments. The first aspirated a small fragment into the upper part of the trachea and resuscitation attempts resulted in descent of the foreign body to the right lower lobe bronchus. Two attempts at bronchoscopy were unsuccessful and spontaneous disintegration occurred.
