Global variation and uniformity of eggshell thickness for chicken eggs
Damaged eggshells result in losses of eggs. Numerous efforts have been carried out to improve eggshell quality, which may lead to increased eggshell thickness. The conventional way of enhancing eggshell strength with thicker eggshell on average may be replaced by a new strategy to improve eggshell uniformity without increasing eggshell thickness.

The effect of developmental stage on eggshell thickness variation in endangered falcons [PDF]
We compared eggshell thickness of hatched eggs with that of non-developed eggs in endangered falcon taxa to explore the effect of embryo development on eggshell thinning. To our knowledge, this has never been examined before in falcons, despite the fact that eggshell thinning due to pollutants and environmental contamination is often considered the ...

Research Note: Electronic Eggshell Thickness Gauge
Abstract An electronic gauge that increases the speed and ease of measuring eggshell thickness is described. The performance of the electronic gauge was compared with that of more conventional methods (visual and mechanical) of thickness measurements.

The Effect of Eggshell Thickness on the Hatchability of Guinea Fowl and Pheasants [PDF]
Successful incubation affects the number of healthy chicks in all poultry species. This study examined the effect of eggshell thickness on the hatching rates of guinea fowl and pheasant eggs. In total, 964 guinea fowl and 1,728 pheasant eggs were used in

Impact of cuticle quality and eggshell thickness on egg antibacterial efficiency
The cuticle is the first barrier against bacterial trans-shell penetration. To evaluate the cuticle quality among different colored eggshells, an efficient and reliable method is proposed in this paper on the basis of the opacity theory. It is shown that the Spearman's rank correlation coefficients between the proposed opacity method and the reported ...

MULTIPLE REGRESSION ANALYSIS OF EGGSHELL MEASUREMENTS IN TWO GENETIC GROUPS OF CHICKEN [PDF]
The research was conducted on eggs of 148 heterozygous naked neck (Nana) and 124 normally feathered (nana) genotype chickens maintained in individually cages. Three hundred eggs selected randomly (150 each).

Dietary sodium (Na) levels were related to the content of the eggshell matrix. We therefore speculated that dietary Na supplementation as sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) or sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) may improve eggshell quality. Additionally, dietary NaHCO3 or
